I just checked my oil today and found it needed two quarts. I just put 2 quarts in it a couple of months ago. I dont drive it much. There is no oil on the garage floor where it sits all the time. It doesnt smoke and there isnt any on the bottom of the truck, that I can see. I use Mobil 1 0W40 like the manual says. I also haven't used any additives. Is this normal? Should I be using additives?

Mine use to use about a quart every oil change when I used the 0-40 so I changed to the Royal purple ( can't remember the weight ) and it used more than the 0-40 . I finally changed to the 15-50 mobile -1 and it doesn't lose any between oil changes , also less noise from the valve train ..
I also changed out the factory oil lines to JTSVP oil lines... Factory lines leak or they will , you might want to check yours ...

Disclaimer , I live in Florida hot zone and oil weight should be decided on the climate and temperature ranges you live in .

After driving two different Srt10's for 5 years, I've learned to check the oil, EVERY time I pump gas. Now when Im filling the wifes car I get anxiety when Im nursing the pump instead of having my head under the hood. It just seems like something your supposed to do now.

It's normal for these trucks to use oil. 1 quart every 3,000 is an anomaly! 2-4 every 3,000 is normal and 5 if you go 5,000 intervals. I have only 40k and it burns about 1-1000 and it has been serviced religiously! Add an oil line leak and 60,000 miles and you might expect that consumption to go up.

If I had to guess, I dont think that the guy that bought this truck new, never broke it in right. It only has 20k miles on it. I think that I may change to just a little heavier oil. Plus, like Jeff said, I am going to check it every time I get gas.

Guys, I run the piss outta my truck (with nitrous) and it has 64000 miles on it. It uses about a pint of oil between 3500 mile changes.

My oil lines leaked, however, I never had a puddle or even spots under the truck.. After doing some looking, I found that the oil was on the top side of the front bumper pan (what ever that damn think is called)

I've got 117,000 miles on mine. I have only used 0-40 Mobile and Phx tends to be just SLIGHTLY warmer than anywhere else in the US. I have never had to add oil between its 3000 mile change interval...level has never changed on the dip stick.

mine usually starts going down after 2500miles on the oil change (dont ask me why it waits but i have checked for every mile of the 50k myself) 2k miles its right on the money 2500 right on the money after that it slowly starts going down. never bad usually just change oil at 3k and dont think twice about it usually less than a quart low by that time.

I usually lose about a quart between oil changes and I take mine out to 5k. I have 51k on the truck and the factory leaky lines on it still. I am pretty sure mine can be attributed to that since I get 1-2 drops a night from the oil lines. I already have the JTSVP lines, just need to get back from deployment to put them on.
