Im a mud engineer. You should come be a rough neck on a deep water job. These guys dont even know how to trip pipe. Iron rough necks have made them lazy.

Ironroughnecks keep me in a job! All hail the IR 3080! and bigfoots!

Do any work for Noble? The I.R. out here took a crap 2 weeks ago. They replaces it with another. These poor guys were miserable with out it.

Never heard of Seadrill. Who and what are they? Rig company, contractor company or supplier?

This is interesting.. I always wondered about working offshore but never knew where to look.. All I do is run around the globe making sure drilling tools stay functional..

How do you go about getting a captain's license? Do you have to start out as a green-horn and work your way up? Or do you just go to school for it, then intern or something? :dontknow:

YOU CAN GO EITHER WAY...
funny you mention this..my 17 year old wants to follow dad in his foot-steps, best advice i can give him is go to an academy..like TEXAS A&M in galveston, 4 years and you graduate with a 3rd mate unlimited licensce, which is the equivalent of a 1600 ton master's. i went through a two year course years ago which was geared for the offshore oil and gas industry.(don't believe this is offered anymore) graduated with an AB unlimited certificate which is basically an experienced deckhand. i worked my way through the ranks from there. you can hire out as an OS, which is an ordinary seaman with no experience and work towards an AB position and then on up.
