The ford wagon push car was a 63(,I think).

I believe the differential pumpkin is right between the drivers legs on that style dragster. Just can't imagine how that would feel if that came apart while making a run. Don't remember if there's even a driveshaft. It might be mounted right to the back of the transmission. In any event, It's too much moving stuff too close to my personal stuff.

With Nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters and Nostalgia Top Fuel funny cars there is just a coupler between the output and the rear end, no driveshaft.

Nostalgia Top Fuel racing, is great fun.

I am a crew member on Randy Walls Nostalgia Top Fuel funny car team.
This is one of the greatest experiances in my entire life.

You are correct, the pumpkin is right between your legs. In the old days the only thing saving your ass, or nuts in this case was a strap of steel welded to the back of the housing behind the ring gear.

When they first started the Econo Rail class, a friend and myself bought an old front engine C class dragster chassis and build a "A" class Econo Rail. Big Block Chevy and a Powerglide tranny.

I was the driver and I did have the rearend come apart just before the lights. Not only was it a very exciting ride as the wheels were intermittently locking up, but some of the parts came out of the back side of the housing and hit the safety strap. They then bounced off of that and hit me in the legs hard enough to leave black and blue marks.

Ah yes, the good old days.;) :D
