 Anyone Fabricate their own Cold Air Intake system?? I'm looking at making my own set-up.....

Ideas?

I was told that the Mopar kit has a 4 1/2" pipe. Don't know on the Volant, or K&N-?? (if you have these please post the tube o.d.)

I can get the pipe, and bends, but would 5" be a better size?:D

Just looking for opinions....

The stock airbox is already cold air. The passenger side grill backing has a scoop that pushes into the fender and the airbox pulls from there.:p

The reasonable upgrade is ram air. Not unlike the various hood scoop kits and nowwhat's grill intake horn.:D

On another site, can't remember which one. A guy used some black PVC pipe, rubber hose and some clamps to install a K&N filter.

Saw another one where a guy did basically the same thing but used metal piping insted of PVC. Both looked a little out of place and a bit rushed.

So the only suggestion I would make, is take your time and make it look good

Jeff

That sounds HACKish. Not my style at all. I plan on taking my time and making this look good. Using metal tubing and bends, will be finish welded. Possibly thermal coated for looks. . . . .

I made mine out of an aluminum elbow from www.burnsstainless.com. But back when I made it the tubing was a lot cheaper :( I also reused the stock 'accordion' intake tubing and inserted the elbow to cover all of the ribs. I then used a S&B air filter.

I did something like this. Mine looks just like Stingray's setup above, but I have a Black PVC elbow.

Actually the PVC 90 degree elbow was white, until I painted it Black - ~$4.

Bought a K&N Cone filter from Summit - $58 at my front door.

Bought a Breather Filter for the hose that runs to the stock airbox - $10

I forget the size of the PVC elbow, but I think it's like 4"?

I removed the plastic panel that is attached to the back side of the grill (passenger side), and the filter now sits right behind the grill.

I put the breather filter on the end of a shorter hose and zip-tied it just above the fan - no probelmo!

Simple, Clean, Easy, and IMO works as well as anything other 'cold air' intake.:D

Lol...so wait let me get this right "Intakes by Justin" are much more "Substantial" than a K&N, Mopar or Volant?? Is this because you have one or why exactly bro? :dontknow:

If you are wanting a custom CAI, I would contact member JMB Justin and get his CAI kit. It will cost you less than a K&N and is far more substantial. It is very professionally made and even has an evaporator cannister.

Make the rollbar first :D

If your looking sound, CAI, But i think for performance, Maybe a drop in would be better. Not a big HP gain between the two.

I believe there are gains to be had at the top end with a cold air intake set-up..... And This mod will mesh with a few of my other ideas I want to try out.......

Just move here to northern IL...cold air taken for granted this time of the year! Or if you really have a big set...join MoparMudder in northern Wisc.

Just my impression Bro...Metal intake tube, solid metal box and thick metal evaporator canister. If you could see them side by side (as I have) you would understand what I mean.

No disrespect to the K&N or the others. I am sure they all perform similarly. None of them prolly do much better than a drop-in filter either. Bling and sound it what they are all about. ;)

I meant no disrespect at all bro just curious as to you view on how it was more substantial nothing more!! :burnout:
