Options for lowering a QC?

Say I do not want to do a full lowering kit for my QC. I really only want a 1+" drop in the front and 2" drop in the back.

In stock form the truck rides nice like it is. I don't want to compromise that much at all. I'm afraid a 2/4 drop may do that.

So what are my best options?

... leave the front alone and just drop the rear 1.5-2" with shackles?

you can do a shackle kit to level out the back.drops it about 1 1/2".Stink has some springs you can do the front with.I think drops it about 2"though.I just went with the shackle kit.Had too many issues on my 03 Quad hemi.Just could never get it right.Contact stinker.He knows his chit!

Yeah, Stinker has been great!

I just don't think I want a full kit that he sells... I can't imagine dropping the rear 4" will not do something bad as far as ride quality.

Too bad there isn't a 1/2 kit.

Get any flip kit and eithe cut a coil out. LOOKS AWESOME Rides great - hard to align. 250$

Buy stinkers 800$ performance lowering

Or buy at flip kit, and get some drop lower control arms 500$

OOOOORRRR buy a 2" drop shackle remove a spring from the leaf pack, and cut 1/4 of the coil spring and it will look awesome! 100$

This sounds like a good alternative. I don't want something hard to align, and I don't want to compromise the ride much, if any.

Will a 1/4 cut on the front spring drop it ~1" in the front? If so, that's pretty cool (and easy). I've got a good grinding tool... just need a big cut-off wheel, I'd assume.

When you cut the coil just don't get in a hurry and use heat stick with the cutoff wheel.


Sure would like to see more of srt trucks with a 4/6 drop.

cuttingj 1/2 coil off will drop you about 1 inch or a touch more, then a shackle kit on the rear, but personally look or pm emt/srt he put shackles on the rear, and took on leaf out, looks great.

not a real big fan of cutting springs, but thats me, I have done it, just not a fan.

Ok, my fault bad English Lets try this again with more bad writeing . Continue to use the cut off wheel don't get in a hurry and use heat to make the cut.

I think a lot of people feel the same way due to it not being done correctly. I wouldn't ever go more than 1 coil depending on the style of coil but some shouldn't be cut. Heats the first mistake people make when cutting a coil it weakens the spring changing the spring rate and killing ride quality. The next biggest screw up i see is cutting to much.

I use a Port-a-band band saw................. I know not everyone has one of these in their ENORMOUS Matco toolbox but you can rent one for 5 bucks.

Cuts threw like a knife through butter and with minimal heat.........soak it in WD-40

To my eye if you do the shackle and leaf delete it tips the balance to the rear if only slightly.

So since i like the stance of the truck with the 2" drop shackles, I'm going to remove a spring and cut on the coils until i get the same stance just lower

You lower your truck and you WILL have alignment issues.Depends on what you can live with.I could just never get my old truck right.Alot of guys have done it though and you can get it pretty damn close.:rock: :rock:

Love the stance on mine. Stinkers kit is awesome and he helped me at weird hours lol

Ride is a little harder, I am more worried about the front clip hitting parking curbs than anything else!

Unless you do the leaf removal and the coil cut................. thats not too low and you wont have to elongate the adjustment holes.

I'll probably start with a 2" lowering shackle in the rear and see what I think. I have always been opposed to cutting springs. You guys are talking about using heat... I don't want to heat the springs either. As someone correctly pointed out above, that will screw up the spring rate, etc.

If someone made a 1/2 drop, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I guess there isn't one out there. ???

the heat folks talk about is when people would cut them with a torch................................... when i've cut them with the portaband it doesn't even make the wd40 smoke...................... and it's through in a min or two.

Thanks bro. I have access to a bandsaw, and it was either that, or an air-powered cut-off tool that I have. I wouldn't use a torch to cut the spring, no matter what.
