Yes they are bad out here in the Valley where I use to live. Everything is safe as long as the fire doesn't jump the freeway

Nothing this way yet. But last year it burned within 100 yards of where I'm living now. We are right at the base of the hills. Hope nothing burns this way this year, we don't have any insurance.

It looks to me like these damn fires are a yearly thing. Did California always have these fires every fall?

Yeah Bill, it's natural for California to burn. It's the environment we are in. It's actually necessary. The problem is that everybody wants to build their house in all these canyon areas and then expect the firefighters to rush in and save them. Shit, they'll get burned out and rebuild in the exact same spot.

Never really thought about it this way, but I guess they are looking for their own bailouts of sorts. They expect to have all kinds of resources available to fight these fires, and if they do get burned out they want FEMA there to help them, but they don't pay any more for it than someone who built in a safe area. Guess that's just the American way heheh. No different than those on the Gulf coast or tornado alley.

I hope everyone is spared from the fires....I can't even imagine being so close to it and not be able to do anything. Hats off to our firefighters out there(and everywhere for that matter)
