Another mirror question.... I do not like the plastic black, and I am not putting the chrome covers on them!! I want to put a set on that are painted, black or red. I want to keep the same style mirrors. Any options?

Your local bodyshop can paint them anyhow/way you want them. Understand most autobody shops don't like small jobs so don't get discourage by their responses. Be open with timeframe and you can get them done. Might try some of the local Motorcycle painters as well. They're more app't to take on a small job like that. I'm doing mine as soon as the temps come down....100F is too hot to spray. I'm a backyard sprayer.

i did mine a few weeks ago:D i am thinking about my door handles next :burnout: they r the wrong color for you but you get the idea:rock:

Hey Silver

Did you sand them smooth before you painted them. I bought a "like new" set off ebay a couple weeks ago and am going to paint them Black. What type of paint did you use?

That is the thing, it would take some work to get them right prior to paint. I have to tools to do it myself, would just rather paint a already smooth surface. Also concerned about the paint chipping/peeling if I were to swing the mirrors in.

Some of my work....

ya, be careful painting those mirrors. I prept and painted mine with the best equipment, and a professional painter. As soon as those mirrors are swung closed the paint starts to chip, or scratch. The best way is to get those CAL-VU mirrors off of stylinconcepts.com.

good luck

I use automotive Urethane based finishes. Primers have plenty of build to completely cover and offer a smooth surface for single or 2 stage paint. Your local supplier can direct you to the proper additives to obtain proper adhesion to the plastic. Big warning...these products are full of nasty's like isocyonates. This is not to be taken lightly. You must use an approved breathing device. Forced fresh air being the best. If you are not experienced with these products then leave it for the professionals.

There are new water based products out there but I have no experience with them. BMW has been using them for years now with fairly good results but still doesn't hold up like modern Urethane's.
