paxton vs roe cost vs performance

Unfortunatley, none of us really want to go the common sense route; which would have us spending money on strength vs. performance first. Spending money on forged pistons and a tranny first aren't nearly as exciting as the performance gains of a supercharger. But by taking preventive measures first, you possibly save yourself additional, unnecessary expenses in the future (i.e. if you put the sc on first and break a piston, you risk destroying the motor).

So, if you find yourself depleting your cash reserves quickly, you may want to consider your order of purchase. It may save you some headaches in the future.

I have personal experience with which outnumbered speaks. I spent 7K to get another motor (thanks again 1fast :) ) and almost 10K to have the other one removed and the "new" one put in. My current one does have forged pistons and otherwise stock internals. The '03 motors are supposed to have the strongest rods of any of the GenIII motors. With that said, I'm not ready to gamble on more power (over 850 rwhp from Joe at Performance by Joes tune on a similarly prepped Viper) unless there is a warranty with it.

If you think you're going to run a SC with any level of boost in an automatic and NOT upgrade the tranny, you're crazy. You can get a bargin tranny for about 4 grand. All a matter of how fast you want to go. If you are happy going REAL high 11's, you can do it pretty cheap. Dropping that another second, isn't cheap. That is why I'm buying a factory twin turbo car for my bday. I can throw drag radials on and run low 11's, all under a factory warranty.

Ok I think I have put this off for long enough. Can everyone please post up and tell me what is better paxton or roe? ie, cost, performance, maintenance, reliability. Also, I am assuming boomer installs the paxton and roe in florida installs the roe. i have about 17500.00 for mods and wanted to know how far that will get me. also i have a qc so for 17500.00 what times would the truck be expected to run? im sure this has come up before so if this is a repost i apologize.

thanks in advance

why you been doing some motor work? nah no procharger just a battery charger.

As stated....

Tranny must be done
A 2500 stall 'verter is need to get into the 11's consistently
Slicks

As far as what S/C....

Pick your closest tuner that YOU TRUST....AND LET HIM CHOOSE.....

$5k tranny
$2k 'verter
$9k S/C installed
$1k Slicks w/rims

Stuff you need
Caltracs $400 installed
Shaved calipers....$$$?

then $2k in stuff that just friggin adds up...gauges etc...

oh then there is tuning and adjustable shocks and rear end upgrades and and and.....:D

How fast do you want to go.....:D

well sounds like i need to just spend the 17.5k on a car that already goes fast.

No but a friend of mine is building one and putting a 16 horse vtwin Kawasaki on his, supposed to run 28 mph!!!
waste of money. i run about 25 now with the 11 horse subaru but its not tuneable for more. my buddy has a 78 kawasaki he built as a police cart for the campground and his 9 horse does 36. i cant imagine what the 16 horse will run. its all in the governor. keep me posted. looking forward to meeting you at the nats.

Well.. lets see.. I recall writing a check to Boomer for around $13k for the Paxton, Headers, Heat Exchanger, Mirrors, Lowering Kit, Cal Tracks, and Billet Bling.

Another $700 check for HID Lights setup to Boomer.

$900 to DC for Computer, and Blower Flash.

$4000.00 to Tranny Shop for custom build, and 2300 Billet Stall.

Now myself, and some VTCOA buddies helped installed the SC.. its was a PITA...

But the truck is a beast now...

I've been going through this build in my head and doing major research on the pros and cons to Paxton vs Roe... I'm probally going with the Roe since I don't really have to do anything to the trans other then a clutch.

Actually the Roe may be harder on parts than the Paxton, because of the greater torque down low.

Something to think about.

Adding to that....the Roe may be great....or it may be a motor killer like the last generation Roe.....only time will tell....keep that in mind..

so far from what ive read

last generation roe = motor killer
sts = motor killer cylinder #3
paxton lots of mods.

cheaper to add the pcm and run it as is.

don't be logical....where is the fun in that.....:D

None of the paxton trucks have pushed the limits with their builds The stock internaled trucks running minimial boost seem to be fine with the Roe. The only two jacked up paxton builds are NowWhat (not running) and blake (no idea what his deal is now). I'm the only one who has done a big roe build and for some reason I have a cursed oil pump.

So on both SC'ers, if you run normal boost, things seem to be fine.

No, you have two smaller oil pumps now. :D I saw that and said to Dave, "How in the h_ll did he do that?"
Did anything else show up with your engine or just the oil pump?
BTW, I found your head bolts/studs with RSI in Texas who makes them for ARP. Somehow, Indy Cyl found them too.

My motor still hasn't come out of the truck last I heard. I'll post whenever my guy tells me something.

When I was down there at Roe the end of Jan, it was pulled. Did they reinstall it and take it to someone else?
That's how I noticed your head bolts and new age oil pump.

Add one more to your list:

Good Tune = ZOOOOM Bad Tune = BOOOOM

Once again...I really believe that your choice is really driven by the fact that you are in Indiana...Boomer knows Paxton...if you were in California I would say Paxton and DC Performance...if you were in the Southeast I would say Roe Racing for the Roe or Paxton with Underground Racing...with your level of expertise you need a partnership with a great tuner...Boom can fill that bill with the Paxton...and I say that from the perspective of a man who has total confidence and a great relationship with Sean Roe.

I have a street build...5.6 lbs of boost and it is very manageable.
