Performance upgrades headers/superchargers

Guys, I am fixntah buy the Roe supercharger kit. I know that I need to have as many as the mods I can have installed before they do the flash. My question (OMG! one of many) is should I get the Bassani's and put em on now before I do the supercharger or could I wait a bit and do this later with the only effect being a reflash and installation? Is there anything I'm missing here? I need to buy sparkplugs and wires and other goodies while they have the engine tore apart

Engines are air pumps...the more in the more out...restrictions of any kind seem to be contradictory...generally speaking.

if your going to run headers id go ahead and install them, the bassani's are easy to install get new gaskets dont try to re use the old ones.

You're right, you never see a race car with headers... If your therory were so, there wouldn't be a header industry at all.

An engine is an air pump, the more air volume you get through it, the more horsepower you can make by mixing gas with that air. Restrictions to the airflow = lost HP potential. Stock manifolds are more restrictive than headers, therefore hurt the through put of the air pump. This is more true the higher the HP of the engine. Your truck in aprticular would definitely benefit from headers becasue of the amount of air you're trying to push through it.

guys....these are not 60's big block hot rods....what worked on a 69 chevelle doesn't neccessarily work on a S/C build....

the S/C needs some backpressure to attain max performance.....why is that so confusing....????

why do performance cars run a 3 or 4" exhaust vs a 6 or 8"....?....why do collectors increase power......why does a 2 into 1 header on a harley make more power than 2 straight pipes....

are engines have moved past generalities....more factors...in my case headers would not allow my S/C to build to 9psi...

if you want headers , BUY THEM , it dont hurt, and who knows if it helps or not, nowwhat is fast for a guy that has a butt as large as he does

so gettem iif ya wantem , if for nothing else looks

they dont flash the Roe, you use a vec III that is tunable.

get wires, best time to put them on,

fresh plugs , yes , by all means.

call Justin and get a set of catless mids, or at least hi flow, well worth the money to remove the stockers.

go ahead and get you a couple guages, AEM air fuel is almost a must, boost guage, and I also think a fuel pressure is a must but that is personal prefernce.

didnt look if you wwere a RC or a QC if RC go ahead and upgrade the clutch to a centerforce and the viper master and slave deal, you want bve sorry

ok...how about this...

headers are a science.....a header needs to be SPECIFIC to the motor and its mods...yes?...

a car with diffferent cams, heads, displacement etc...needs different headers...that is to say the header has to be tuned for the car....

here is what I am saying Steve....that bigger is not always better....you would agree that different designs work with different combos...?...for this reason....the manifold on our trucks seem to be the correct "header" for a S/C....

I have the roe, and without headers and with headers was a 28rwhp difference. I agree with mike to a point...will you gain with headers? yes....how? 2 ways, 1 from hot exhaust being moved faster out of the engine compartment, and 2 from the ability to move more air out of the cylinder, that's why roller rockers are important also; to move more air out of the cylinder. There IS a point where moving tooooo much air out does no good (ex: like mike said 8" exhaust vs 3"), but that can all be measures using various flow tools and reading air restrictions.

Bottom line IMO?

N/A - you will see very little gains

F/I - you will see decent gains due to flow & lower Intake temps (potentially if done right)

I certainly agree 100% that all the mods on an engine (and the whole car for that matter) need to be done in harmony with each other. I do agree that bigger is not always better (despite what Spousal Unit might think)...but I also standby my comment that airflow restriction is not good for building horsepower and that headers (abeit the correct size/shape headers for an application) will make power because of the reasons Patrick stated. They will increase the velocity and air flow both of which are goodness, as long as you get the right ones.

I think we're all on the same page here, no?

I better take the 2 1/8" tube, 5"collector, Lemon's headers off my blown, injected 69 Chevelle, and get a set of stock manifolds. NOT

An engine is an air pump and the intake and exhaust system are just a continuation of the intake and exhaust ports.

Headers are a benefit with blown motors.

They can be specifically designed for a blown motor. The tube size is larger as is the collector. The siciece of headers is very involved and sometimes some folks just can't see the forest for the cast iron.

Headers are a good way to go, they do not equate to the HP per $ that some other mods will get you. They are an integral part of any performance package.
