Performance upgrades headers/superchargers

I am not supercharged and by no means claim to be knowledgeable about them but I have also heard that a supercharged motor will typically hold lower boost pressure, but will actually make more horsepower (with less boost) with the headers. :dontknow:

Possibly, depends on other mods, ....but a solid good curve is better then a HP gain ;)

I love that you can find all this info on our site. But I would say forget about comparing anything to blow chevelles, or what works on a mustang, or what works on a 85 corolla. Technology allows us to build more HP and better track times. So 40 years from now you might be putting an electric motor in your SRT to run 8's. Then we won't need headers or arabs! just a thought.

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL HELPING!

Wow! talk about a response :) Okay so what I hear is get the Bassani's as it can't hurt..but from what Nowwhat says I can be messing up by the possibility my supercharger wont boost to 9psi due to the headers. Wouldn't Roe say something like a disclaimer if this was going to occur? You guys with the Roe setups chime in too please. Again thanks for the overwhelming (allthough conflicting) responses :D

get the headers and be done with it...not to worry about boost, better to make less boost and more power then more boost and no gains :)

New or old engines do not matter, as long as we do rely on the Arabs to power our hotrods, the same tricks will use more Arab supplies and make more horsepower. The same things that made that blown Chevelle fast will make an SRT-10 fast, why else would we be porting and polishing heads, puttin in bigger cams, etc? The only thing that fuel injection and computer technology has changed is that they allow us to more effectively control the air/fuel ratio than the old Holley carbs did.

With respect to the blower pressure comments, I don't know that purposely restricting an engine so it builds blower pressue is goodness. It would seem to me that this pressure is reflecting the build up of air flow inside the engine, rather than going through and making horse power. I would argue that perhaps a non-restricted engine running minimal boost pressure might well make more power than a restricted engine with higher boost pressure. The name of the game is to get as much air through the pump (engine) as quickly as you can and mix the fuel with it efficiently, that's what builds maximum power.

Ain't this bench racing fun though???LOL!!!

Speedo, what you have just read is our ongoing ( 2 years ) debate on headers. Mike owns the record for the fastest truck and "just says no" to headers. Many others say yes. I would get Roe's opinion on what mods you might need. I have no idea whats correct for your build.

Ok I've spoken to a couple of tuners around here and they've all pretty much said what Mike is saying. On SC engines Viper engine specifically, 2 tuners have said just remove the cats or do only 2 high flows. One of them told me that he did a paxton w/stock exhaust maniflod dyno and then installed some B&B long tubes and all he got was 3 rwhp more with the headers. Now that's not to say that he didn't benfit from the headers in other ways, but I could think of a couple of different ways to spend $1700 that would produce more than 3 rwhp.

Mike I'm with you on this one.

I am going to shut up now before you jack up my parts on purpose....:D ...

Jack up your #&^**@#.....:D

The BS that goes on on the internet is just amazing.......
The exhaust is just part of the total package.

The fronts cats are not very restrictive. The inlet and outlet can be opened up to 3" and they will flow as well or better than a NiFlow Cat.

The secondary cat as designed and manufactured, is very restrictive.
There is not much hope for doing anything but gutting it and opening up the inlet and outlet to make it work.

There was a cat redesign in summer or 04 on the trucks. The first version of the cats was marginal. Some of the early Cats are covered under a recall.

I myself are going to run Bassani headers on the red truck with a
paxton.

What we need is for one of you Supercharged guys to do a before and after dyno test with and without a set of headers. :dontknow:

Depending on funds, I just may.

I am getting my ROE installed in the next couple of weeks (hopefully next week early). I will be running JMB mids and a true 3" magnaflow cat back. Depending on my funds and fun, I may add Bassani headers in the future.

Roe is fully aware of my plan, and they are convinced I will not have a problem running ala NOWWHAT style.

Well i'm looking to get my truck dyno'd here asap and I am actually going to install a true 3" magnaflow cat back and I have Bellanger headers and mids. I currently have a Borla cat-back but don't like the sound or look of the tips so by Wednesday i'll have put the magnaflow on the truck and will be hopefully on the dyno, only two dyno's in town and the one guy charges $185 for dyno hours :(

Jack and Steve,,,,

would you agree:

1) that there is an optimum exhaust flow level for our motors with a paxton...that is to say that you could be too restrictive and by the same token too open....?

2) would you further agree that the optimum flow level has not been determined and therefore it is possible...just possible that you can achieve that flow level without headers...

lastlywould you agree that since I make 700rwhp on just boost and I can't put all of it to the ground anyway....that I simply do not need headers?

respectfully,
Mike

oh,....

do you think I can call the tank the world's fastest truck with stock manifolds...?.....:D ...pretty safe bet
