photography and new camera

so i got my 7D, so far i love it.
super fast boot-up,
live view is great,
video is UNREAL. this is by far the best camera i have ever owned.
i want to get a mic for it, but i know nothing about microphones.
i was thinking about a shotgun, but i would rather have something directional.
any suggestions?

planning to do a ton of nature video. in fact that is why i got it.
one major problem i am having is video upload to youtube. these 1080P videos are massive.
