Hey Y'all...I don't get it.....

I've NEVER thought of Bob Barr as Libertarian......

I've thought of him as a Liberal moron.... But now he's been nominated to run for Prez as a Libertarian and he's suddenly speaking from a platform of vastly limited government and greater personal freedoms....

What the FK is this.......???

He's never postulated or promoted these ideals before now....

Have the Libertarians now become so desperate to proffer a candidate that they've chosen this absolute zero, born again Libertarian as a candidate...? To my recollection, he's NEVER EVER expoused these ideals in the past.....

I mean...WTF? Are we supposed to BUY this shit....?:dontknow: :argh:

Gotta split, I'll be back later.....

D

If Ron Paul would run as Libertarian, I think he would actually have a chance. The Libertarian Party is as close to the OLD (read: BETTER) GOP as we are ever going to get. It's truly a shame, what the Republican Party has become. :(

The only connection I can see Barr having with conservatism is his connection with the NRA.

I only watched a few minutes of an interview on Youtube but I already like him better than the others. From what I gathered, he wants to get things back like they use to be. A smaller less involved Government. Let State Government make more decisions. Hopefully that means a leaner Federal Government that doesn't go through money like it's water.

I lived near and used to work out of the same bldg as Bob Barr.

Back then the general consensus was that his opinions were valid but he was

extremely blunt and undiplomatic(even by my standards!).

If you watch that vidio and disregard Mr.Colbert's BS comments, Mr.Barr

makes perfect sense. The main point I share with him is govn't programs

should be examined on a regular basis and modified or abolished if they are

not having the intended affect.

Also I respect him for the fact that when asked a question, he responds with

a clear and unambiguous answer, unlike most of the other politicians.

He seems to have the same beliefs as myself, half liberal, half conservative,

staying consistent with the principals this country was founded on.:)

Looking at his voting record it appears that in fact, he is quite conservative. He sided with the Republican position in almost every vote.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/b000169/votes/

He now claims to have changed his views on a few things, such as the war on drugs and medical marijuana as well as same-sex marriage and the role of the federal government. I would like to hear more from him, especially in regards to his new found views on issues such as this. Seems funny that a former fed prosecutor and huge proponent of the war on drugs has changed his mind about that subject. Maybe he really has, my concern is that he is just saying the things that got him the nod.

It seems as if privacy and keeping the government out of our lives has been a position that he has held for some time. He apparently added amendments to the Patriot Act (among others) to limit the scope and the length of the act. I like that about him at least.

I guess it really doesn't matter, he's not about to be elected. But I would consider casting my vote for him if he is sincere and not just being another go with the flow politician.

Never be afraid to change your position if the FACTS justify it, that should

be considered a character attribute.

The best example is his opinion that the "War on Drugs", needs to be

reexamined. I used to be totally closeminded and thought that anyone who

supported that view was just some dopper or drug dealer fool, but after

spending almost 30yrs in law enforcement I agree 100% that we need a

major rethink of the game plan on that issue.

I just have no knowledge of this guy whatsoever and wanted your feedback...

I've (perhaps erroneously) considered him part of the Henry (I'm porcine) Waxman crowd..... Not sure why.....

I'm gonna watch the videos and check out what kind'a shit this guy's shoveling.

I'm a Libertarian (conservative) by nature... I believe in military superiority, borders, language and culture. (Thank you, MS) But, most of all I believe in Liberty and the rights of private citizens, the abolishing of Eminent Domain, a 15% flat tax, small government, term limits, the end of the IRS and the decriminalization of drugs. (if people want to use whacked out shit like crack and herion.... we can't stop 'em anyway... Get organized crime out of the drug business. Cops got better things to do than to enforce laws against smokin' a bit of weed.... (that's just so fkd up...what a waste of police resources)..

D

I doubt that anyone's political platform advocates all that shit, but that's what I advocate....

Damn Mr.Django, those are EXACTLY my views. Must be lonely out there,

don't most californians think conservative is a four letter word?

.

It's pretty much in line with my views as well, though I'm sure there are other things that we all differ on.

And there are areas in California that are beyond conservative. Remember that in the last 40 years both Nixon and Reagan have come from Southern California.

Wasn't there a recent president from Georgia too? heheheheheh
