I know there are significant improvements in hp and torque when you port match heads with the intake manifold. Just wondering if anyone has done that with the stock heads and intake on our trucks? Can these trucks even BE port matched, are they already and would it make a noticeable difference? Just curious

Joe Donovan (PBJ Performance) will doing mine along with a big cam and roller rockers. Truck is scheduled to go in a couple of weeks from now.

The outside runners can be portmatched, but to port the whole intake it will have to be cut open.

Honestly, the gain vs. cost for a stock manifold for anything beyond port matching to the heads is a waste. The inside of the GENII Viper intake manifold can be extrude honed to increase air flow inside (without cutting it apart), but it doesn't add up to more than a few HP. For the money, you'd be better off buying a single-blade throttle body (available from RSI now, and X-Metal sometime soon) to increase intake flow.

I agree on the intake. That's basically what I was trying to say. :D

I am doing an all N/A build so the throttle body won't really be worth it for me either ($$ per hp gain). THe RSI throttle body is also supposed to be a bitch to get adjusted properly (just what I have heard). I would have probably bought an X-Metal throttle body but they won't be ready in time for my build. So Joe D is going to port my stocker for me and see he can get any gains out of it. ;)

In my experience matching of the ports is well worth the time and effort. It is also something that most shade tree machanics can do.

Also if you want to disassemble the heads you can use a sanding burr to smooth the ports in the head. Don't make them larger or change the shape, just smooth them.
