Anyone make one besides "that guy" in TX? I've polished a few by hand in the past. I've never had my truck apart to see what the throttle body actually looks like. Seems like a common mod for other muscle and sports cars. Just curious if there is one out there for G3 engines.

I did mine and some other guys (Stinker for sure) have done theirs. In an hour or two with a die grinder and buffing machine you can make a WORLD of difference inside and out and you can feel the difference in your seat of the pants dyno. A highly recommedned and very cheap mod.

Thanks for the input. May do that one day soon then. Every little bit helps!

This is what they need to look like.
It takes me 10+ hours to disassemble and port blend and polish a throttle body. I did my own on the red truck and am doing one for another forum member right now. (should have been done already but I have been sick)

There is a lot to do if you want it to work properly. If you get into the wrong areas you can scrap it. They are 950.00 new.

The aftermarket throttle bodies have lots of problems and don't seem to work without a lot of rework.

Damn, Jack you're getting slow in your old age..10 hours??? :p ;) You know I'm teasing you...that looks really nice and it does take more than I said now that I think about it, but it's a good chance to sit around and drink some beer and kill an afternoon. It amazed me how much you can open up the bores on the stock unit, there's a pretty substantial restriction built into them.

You might consider the single blade throttle body from RSI. Less expensive than one from Henny. Seems like hand porting and polishing the stocker has negligable gains for the time and effort. My .02.

There still trying to figure-out nowwhat's RSI...he doesn't like it.
Plus I think they had to re-dyno the Truck because of the new and improved T/B. $$$

Quick

I personally wouldn't mind the effort. I get a little kick out of doing things myself.

OK, I'll bite. What's to figure out with a throttle body? You move your TPS over to the new one and bolt it on.

I don't honestly think that Nowwhat's truck had to be dyno'd. More likely it was to see if it did him any good.;)

Yeah, Boomer has talked about making a single-blade body for awhile. Maybe if he can clone himself we'll see it by the end of the decade.:D

I believe the problem with the aftermarket one is that at part throttle the new TB is letting in more air than the ECM thinks it is, so the engine is going lean. We must remember that with a totally different shape butterfly, the air flow characteristics will be very different than what the computer is programmed to supply fuel for the engine.

Bill.

That RSI is pretty expensive. A couple of hours grinding on the stock TB would be something more to what I would do. Thanks for the info though, I hope its working out great for ya, looks killer chromed!

True, however I would expect that you would treat the TB install like your other intake and exhaust mods, where you're pulling the battery lead during the install so the computer is prompted to adjust. Granted, there is a fair difference between the changes the engine sees with a CAI or headers and cat-back vs. a throttle body.

I haven't heard of anyone (besides Mike now) that had any issues with this mod. Wonder if there was anything specific to Mike's build and tune that effected how that TB worked???:dontknow:

We fixed the TB issue....no there wasn't another dyno...:dontknow:....the Blade didn't want to close all the way...

An RSI T/B looks killer...that is one reason to get it...hp increase...?...who knows...3,4,6 rwhp?.....

You may be better off porting the stocker and then powdercoating it for the bling...

I had a ported throttlebody on mine also...and had tip-in problems.

The problem lies in tuning, when in closed mode the adaptives will adjust when you disconnect the battery over time; its the open-loop that's the problem. With the amount of air being sucked through the T/B in such a small amount of time, the tune needs to be slightly adjust to richen up the fuel table in the vac load. Also, if I'm not mistaken something with the IAC did not seem to wk well with that amount of air...

If doing your own, make sure you get the throttle plates to close like stock or else your in a world of doodoo :D

Did someone say bling for the throttle body?

Couldn't resist:

Early in the install process!

So long as it works. I picked up one from a fellow member for $300.00, so if I get anything beyond bling, I'm happy.:D

He's always showing off his big throbbing supercharger. Kinda makes you wonder if he's compensating for other area's where he may be lacking???:dontknow::D :dontknow:
