Today while pulling into a parking space it felt as if the power steering stopped. It became harder to turn the wheel. It came right back, but not something you would expect pulling into a spot.
I have heard that on these trucks the power steering is an issue.
Any truth to this?

I thought I had a problem with mine, too. Next time, make sure your RPM's stay above 1000 and should steer fine. Mine feels like that everytime I pull in my driveway.

it shouldnt matter what rpm's ur at ,take it to the dealer i'ver had both of my power steering pumps replaced

dammit, chub! I ask the same ? about 6 months ago and was told my RPM's were too low. So the next time I felt it stiffin up when pulling in a parking spot, I held my foot on the brake, and gave it a lil gas, & it steered just fine.
I have an appointment @ the dealer next week to have my seatbelt buckle replaced and may need to mention it to them. Thanks!

It is a hydralic setup unlike the old v-8 setups that rely on the speed of the belt,my qc idles around 600-700 i dont have any problems at those rpms with parking

Walbert! Sorry for hoing up your thread but hope it has helped you as much as me. And shows what I know huh?LOL

I concur with Chub. Both of you takem' back to the dealer. I had the same problem and the pump was replaced under warrantee. No more problem. Strong steering even at idle.

Chub,
What dealer have you been going to? How are they with minor mods done to the truck?

Had the exact same problem.....

The pump was going bad. They changed out under warranty

They had to order it. But once it came in, it only took one day to swap it out. I imagine it could be done in a couple hours but I wasn't there during the repair.

I think it only took them a couple of hours. But I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up on my way home.

take it to napletons in lake park off northlake blvd, ask for larry in service, they are pretty good over there

never take it to arrigo dodge!..............never!

Lost mine last year road racing last year. It took about 2 days as they had to remove parts of the Paxton to get to it. There are 2 different power steering units, make sure you get the right one.

They replaced my pump once, then the whole steering column the second time. I have noticed a "whine" when it is cold (<40) and I make a turn, but after it warms up, the whine goes away.

mine always did it when it got wet, replaced the belt with one from napa and it took care of it.

I'm guessing you have had a problem over there? How is Napletons with aftermarket mods?
I have seen in a thread about a couple places in Ft Laud that are fine with aftermarket. I just never get down that way.

check your belt too. when mine gets wet and slips it does the same thing. needed to replace the belt.

Interesting.... Mine usually doesn't work for if it's raining and the truck has been sitting outside for the day. That's the only time it doesn't work right.. It must be the best and not the pump then???
