No I don't need a new engine. I'm just wondering how much you are looking at if you blow one up? So who knows what the price is for a new engine and/or a rebuild?

If I backed out the cost of shipping, dyno testing, coatings, and some of the specialty work that I had done, mine would have cost around 8k for the rebuild. That 8k does include aftermarket rods and pistons though. It's certainly a better prospect to have your own engine done vs. buying just a reman shortblock. That's providing you're willing to have your truck down a while...

My replacement motor was used with 3000 miles on it. Ran me $7K. A brand new motor I think is around $12K+

Interesting idea smoke...maybe a different engine, and then piece out your existing engine...you might be surprised at what your parts will draw...there are lots of people in your position (not just STS owners) who are looking to move back toward a more mild build...this would also be a way that you could feel good about, in disposing of the STS...selling parts for your STS would be a much safer way to get some of your investment back.
