Ok guy's when i bought the kit i thought the problem with the mcgaughy kit was the ride. Like riding down the road, not bumps and dips in the road. So the ride is really smooth, but at 70 if i hit the smallest imperfection in the freeway the front facia scraps, and the rear end bottoms out.

I'm also afraid of the flip kit in the back, using the stock ubolts and plate. It doesn't look right.

So as good as it looks and rides I don't want to waste the money on getting it aligned, just to remove it because it is beating up my truck. So i'm going to remove it tonight, cut 1/4 to 1/2 off of my stock springs and buy a 2" lowering shackel off ebay.

This would get me lower but not so low that my truck is tore up. What do y'all think? Is there anything that I could do to help the scraping issue? Could I cut down the stock spring and make it work?

Help SOON, I've only got alittle while before it is do or die time.

Jay

I only lowered mine a little so I would not have those issues, I guess you need to choose if you want the real low look or not.

Bill.

Take the stock springs , knock off 1/4 at a time, go from there.

jsut remember every time you reinstall , move the truck back and forth20 or 30 ft to let it settle a tad

Ok im gonna take the stocker cut 1/4 off. Flip the axle back to original and order 2" lowering shackels. That should get me level but not to low.

Not how i wanted to spend my monday evening!/

Anyone that wants to call me with some advice

It's the butterfly effect.............everything (somehow) impacts something else....

My problem has always been bumpsteer..... and I get the feeling that (if changing tires doesn't do the trick) it's not going to be a cheap solution.

Yes, the tie rod ends and sway bar are reasonably priced... (if that truly is a fix) but if I have to go to completely remanufactured front end components at 600 bucks, I may not be too happy about it....

Still, I won't put my beast back to normal height....... As Brady sez, "looks like a cat in heat"....

You don't want to hear this, but others may benefit...you get what you pay for...go cheap, get cheap...

So many of us have been so happy with the X-Metal kits...I admire your pioneer spirit, but the experience of others should be carefully considered before the investment of time and money...

Hope the cutting process goes well...be very careful...you are cutting an engineered piece of suspension, that had a specific purpose in mind...and the ride height was not the top priority in that design process...there are lots of other characteristics that will be altered by cutting...I've done it on several vehicles...and some have worked and some have not.

I had the mcgaughy kit professionally installed when I first purchased the truck, before I knew of Boomer or the other site. The kit has been on my truck for about
21K miles and I've never had a problem. I wish I could help but I don't have my truck it is getting the scratches painted on.

The x-metal 2/4 kit doesn't scrap?

Can i delete the rear shackle or is that part of the leaf spring pivot point

No, you cannot eliminate the rear shackle. The shackle is what allows the spring to move. Without that you will not have an suspension movement in the rear.

Though it costs a bit , the X-Metal lowering/handling kit is a much better solution. It uses upgraded springs up front in order to eliminate the bottoming out problem. Also comes with shocks designed to work with it.

Hope your solution works for you.Keep us updated.

It's not going to................... O well, I'm a good wrench and it was fun to get on my wrench's again. Hind sight, i still would not have bought the X-Metal.............. no money. So in a week I'll order the 2" shackle and the cut the spring. That will get me by while I save fundage for the next year. At least I owned a slammed truck, if only for alittle while!

Thanks y'all.

PS I've never stated that the Mc kit was anywhere near the level of quality that the Xm is.

Mine doesnt bottom out and scrape at 70...hmmm....I dunno....maybe I dont drive it enough. I'm sorry that you went through all that to suffer Jay, I feel bad. Maybe I just got lucky....

And again I'll say that when I put the two (McG & XMetal) springs side by side, the Dia of Boomer's is bigger which makes me wonder if the QC is on a 2500 chassis !!:dontknow:
