PROJECT "THUNDER DOME"

Cubes are cubes in air space no madder how you build it. Are you running sealed or ported? if ported what fz are you going to tune your port at, Mine was 40sqin at 38hz in my old setup. Lower the better for street beating.

It will be a sealed box. I'm running a SQ setup. I'm starting to like this down fire idea. I need some ideas that will make the box look less boxy and square, more rounded and contoured like a center consul.

and i would stick with the 12 50 bait has no idea what he is talkin about:D

Does jl audio make a preformed thunder box for the quadcab?? i thought they did. Or try to search for something like that if you are not sure about your build.

my old element at a comp, 11 cubes tuned at 38hz........................................ No sq there :)

I think I'm going to try to incorporate this idea into my design. There are 4 brackets that the OEM console mounts too and it keeps its off the floor board. I believe ill need about 2.6"-3" of space for the excursion of the sub face.

Now for another question. For the components up front. How do you think i should mount the tweeter. Ive read that the tweeter should be no farther then 8" away from the mid. If this is so, then it looks like I'm drilling a hole in the door. If not, then its the corner where the door and window meet. Suggestions?

505, I definetely don't know everything, thanks for the lesson:p ;)

For the cone area you are right, about the 12 verses the 10, you are wrong. Smaller subs are best for SQ. Ever seen a SQ competition vehicle with 18's??? Not many. For the best sound SQ he needs the highest Signal/Noise ratio he can find.

I recommended down-firing them to create more of a surround sound, instead of boomy bass.

Sorry again about the math error, for some reason when I wrote it I was being dumb (One thing about this forum, if your wrong you will know seconds later LMAO:eek:  :D)

For box design, everyone has an opinion. Make sure it is stronger than it has to be and then make it stronger. Bracing is the key. About what shape? It can be any shape as long as you keep it the same volume.

Batteries??? Well you can spend alot, or alot more.

I wish you lived closer, I have 3 Optima Yellow-tops in my garage slowly........dying.

I love Optima yellow's. Ain't cheap and (FOR ME) work great. Some other batteries out there are suppose to be better but they cost even more. Up to you. If you get a yellow top buy one of these. It makes all the connections a breeze, looks bad ass, and is functional too!!! (Just snaps on top of the battery terminals!!!)

So 2 Optima yellow tops, one for the engine, and one for the amps, and a down fire box with the right air space. Got it. Anything else I should know?

this is the first time a 10 inch sub was ever brought up how am i wrong there 5.0bait i know a 10 is better for sound quality but i never posted anything about a 10 just about the comparison of 2 8s vs a 12 in cone diameter

Gotcha. Yep me being dumb again I meant 12 versus 8.

Cone diameter is smaller on 2 8" subs than 1 12". It's simple math I failed to compute. I do apologize for being wrong.

I also apologize for assuming when you stated "and i would stick with the 12 50 bait has no idea what he is talkin about" you were referring to a 12" being better for SQ than 8".

Again, I apologize to anyone on the forum that was misled in anyway by my post. Some of us on here are perfect, I however am not.

Oh in a previous post on this thread, I also spelled versus wrong. Again sorry:(

MoparMan check this link out, this guy has a QC Ram and made a pretty cool box that is almost stock looking (ignore the gray leather he covered it in yuk)
