Took out the complete rear end (4.88's) and replaced it with Eddies old 4.10 rear. I'm thinking I won't mind driving it during the winter months with the higher gearing. Damn did it make a difference ! I have a couple of long trips to make in it and I am real interested in the fuel mileage difference. The last trip was to Panama City wih the 4.88's and it finally got up to about 16.5 mpg. With the old 4.56's I have gotten 19.5 on long trips. We will see...
It sure feels like it has long legs now.

So what's the deal with fuel mileage on these trucks? I've been driving fairly conservatively the last couple of tanks just to see what kind of difference it makes, and I'm only getting 13.7 according to the monitor. Would a tune help?:dontknow:

Sounds like you have a QC. They don't get as good a mileage as the RC.

RC, actually. I keep reading about people getting better than 15 mpg and wondering what I'm doing differently...

in Washington don't they have big hills?
in the south they get much better MPG you cant forget how flat it is there.
personally to go to town i need to climb to 1200' and go down to sea level. i can get about 14mpg here, 17-18mpg highway depending on speed.

Thats my question also, didnt he just replace the gears several months ago.:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Yes, I just put the 4.88's in a few months ago. Mainly wanting to see the difference in performance and mileage will change it back in late Feb. or early March. Just in time for the dragstrips to open back up.

Now I have had all three of our most popular gear ratios in one truck, might be able to answer a few questions.
4.56 - 4.88 - 4.10....

That they do. And I don't think there's anywhere around here where you can get gas without ethanol.

Hey Chubby, I put them in to make my truck faster in the 1/8th mile. The way I see it I can leave the line in 2nd gear and will only have to shift once, I'm shooting for a low 10 second pass. (in the 1/8th)
