I am getting ready to drop the truck and I have a few questions first. I am putting RC springs up front and shackles in the rear. I am thinking about taking out the overload spring but don't want the leafs to sag or buckle under the torque. Would it help if you take the overload from the bottom and put it on top in upside down so it forms the "U" shape or the same way it came off or would it hurt the suspension. Once I get it dropped, I'm planning on installing a sway bar and mayby Caltracs. Any advice from other people who have done the same thing would be great. Not too familiar with this suspension setup yet.

Thanks,
Blake

There has been a bunch of guys that have taken out their overload spring,I am going to take mine out soon also, they havent had any problems since taking them out,the ones I have seen left the stock springs infront, removed the overload spring with 2" drop shackles in the rear and it seems to level them out nicely.

thats what Troy did to his... We havent put the srings on the front.. i dont think is mess with the front but deff the back

DIY post maybe?

Yup you want the rear to squat under load (hard acceleration) it will help with weight transfer......the downfall is axel wrap....cured by caltracs which i need!

Ok, so axel wrap is all it have to worry about but is fixable by Caltracs. So I shouldn't worry about putting the overload back on top or the the other leaf springs.

Yup, shackles and overload spring removed will level it out nice. I also have a set of RC springs waiting to be installed. But I havent, because so far I like the look and the ride.

If you remove the helper spring, you will get the full benefit from the drop kit. If you don't, you won't lose much height, but won't get the axle wrap. Putting the spring on top doesn't change the height if you look at it.

If you remove the spring, you will get a VERY soft ride, and lots of axle wrap under hard acceleration. This is easily cured with the Caltracs.

That is the setup I have on my QC right now, and other than some unwanted noise, it works very well, and gave me the desired drop in height.

yea like they said remove the overload spring and youll be good....just plan on getting caltracs.....

Hey...I'm not the one spending fund on "other" projects before you worry about what you need to be! caltracs is my next big mod.....

I've been running my QC without the overload spring for some time. The remaining leaves have a reverse bend to them now. Height and ride are good, but I'm watching them for any signs of further stress. I am running caltracs and QA-1s.

Any chance you could post a pic of the bend?
