just wondering if i should invest in a high performance slave cylinder and clutch.
mine is not slipping and the guy that had it before me had installed a spec 3 clutch in it about a year ago.
any advice would be helpful.

Well, you have to change the master and the slave when doing hydraulics as they are a matching set.

I say if your short on cash, just use the clutch you have in it till either the clutch or the hydraulics fail or start to have issues, then get the complete centerforce kit w/ viper car hydraulics from one of our vendors. Dragon or boomer can set you up....

If you have the extra cash, before is always better then after :D and if I'm not mistaken, avondale (dragon) has the whole set as special for the month of feb.

Spec clutches are crap in my opinion. I wouldn't put one in my truck if they gave it to me and paid me to install it.

The bad news is......the stock slave unit will shorten the life span of that Spec clutch significantly.

The good news is that you are a member of this forum and when the above happens, you will know to upgrade your master/slave units and put in a better clutch :D

I have had 4-5 clutches, 2 flywheels and two trannies.......all because of the fkn clutch hydraulics...

Upgrade to the Viper GTS hydraulics kit...about $450...

Upon doing that mod...all my clutch probs ceased to exist.....

It is a must mod for '04 RCs....or any year for that matter....

I'm running the OEM clutch last 10,000 miles with zero probs....

Good Luck.

I got a Centerforce in mine no problems yet, but a little chatter now and then. I think the chatter is coming from the allum FW.

JMBJustin has it on special for Feb too. ;)

my stock clutch was crap after 10,000 miles. i got the whole schabang centerforce/slave/fidenza flywheel and i have 20,000 hard miles and 30+ runs at the track many launching above 4,000rpm and its holding strong!

how much is just the slave and master cylinder? and can you just buy the hydraulics?

I will be in need of a Centerforce clutch and Viper slave soon. Last week on two seperate occassions I smelled my clutch burning. First time was in Downtown Houston, but I think that was my fault since I was on a hill in traffic, letting the clutch slip without knowing it. The second time was last Friday when Slow91 installed my shift light and he was testing it out. Yes the truck was fine when he was bringing it up to 5300 rpm, but when we got back to his shop he was attempting a signature full 360 spin but the clutch said "hell no." Needless to say we weren't traveling faster than the speed of smell and was engulfed with the infamous aroma of a clutch bar-b-que. I'm at 25k miles of careful driving and never drag raced.. Although I am guilty of holding in the clutch when stopped at a light.... :dontknow: I was a habitual clutch stepper.. But I've since been rehabilitated and I think it is time for the upgrade.. Oh as for the shiftlight install, I never posted up the end result.. This is the closest to a stock look we could get:

Holding in the clutch at the stop light won't cause any additional wear or problems unless it is not completely disengaging or your not pushing the peddle in far enough. May put some strain on the mechanical portion of the system but the clutch itself shouldn't wear out from this.

I would bet it's a hydraulic problem that is causing the clutch to burn up pre maturely!! Viper Master & Slave, pin up the hydraulic lines, install new clutch, flywheel and break her in properly!! ;)

I would be careful with your shift light in the location it is in!! When running hard and fast you probably wouldn,t want to be looking down waiting for the light??:dontknow:  JMO :p

Where it is located I can at least see the bright glow and won't need to look down. It is currently set to activate at 5400 rpm for power shifting reasons. But that is an extemely rare occurrance. I never get her up that high (unless provoked into something).
