Question About Cooling Fan

Is the cooling fan normally suppose to be spinning even when the engine isn't hot? Or should it be sitting still???

Does anyone know at what temperature it is suppose to kick on?? Stock setting??

how fast is it spinning.:dontknow:

Not fast like i remember it to be. Before when the fan kicked on you could clearly hear it over the idling engine noise??

i believe that the fan will spin slowley, then when it gets a signal will pickup speed.

i can hear mine when it gets changing speeds, but it usually runs when i start the truck, but not really fast.
thats what i meant to say, thanks.

yes, its hydraulic and mine also ran when the car is on.....Power steering fluid is being ran.

Does the fan run when the A/C is turned on even if the truck isn't hot yet?

The cooling fan speed is driven by power steering fluid and controlled by the PCM. The PCM ramps the speed up and down to try and maintain the temps. I found a way to manually turn the fan on high, but it isn't the easiest mod to do. It sure moves a lot of air though.

Fan Mod

Ok:D what is the Mod you are refuring to??:dontknow:
There are some of us that live in very hot places and could use more cooling during thhe summer months.

OK So is it variable speed or just a high and low speed??

Can you enlighten us on how to do this??

The stock set up is variable speed. What I did was allow you to kick the stock fan on full speed without setting a check engine light. I will have to find the old post that I had a write up in. It takes more than just a switch, a couple relays and diodes are also needed. I'll be back...

Ok, I found my old post. Now I can see why I confused a couple of people with my write up  I wouldn't make a good teacher.

Anyway, if interested I can come up with another 'cheezy' schematic and more simplified write up for anyone who wants to have just a dash mounted switch to kick the fans on high whenever they want.

From what i have seen there is not enough power steering pump volume or fluid to run the engine cooling fan properly in hotter climates.... This is why i installed duel electric adjustable thermostat fans. I have the eletric fans set to run a few minutes after the engine is off to remove the excess heat from under the hood.

I have mine running in the AZ heat and it seems to be doing fine....

I do have an electric fan on the a/c condensor but that wont cook the radiator much. When I run the ac and its 105 out the fan spins pretty damn fast. Truck stays right around 205 or so.

Please send me something idiot proof when you have a few minutes, I'd love to do this mod.
