question for those with coated headers ?

i'm curious of those with coated headers: did you heat shield your water hoses, starters, steering linkage, spark plug wires,..... ?

if so, where did you buy these heat shields ?

i want to hear from those who didn't also & if there were any problems.....

When I initially got my truck (used) it did not have the heat shielding on the spark plug wires. It was added when it was getting the clutch and flywheel upgraded. There may have been more heat shielding added but thats what I remember was for sure done. The stuff is kinda pricey if I remember right (for the spark plug wires). I forget what its called but I'm sure others will chime in.
 
My OEM heat shields are still on my sparkplugs. The engine bay is a good 20degrees warmer now with the headers and the coating. I recommend doing it before something breaks, im working on it now...

so where did ya get 'em & what do they cost ?? necessary, in your opinion ?

any other shielding you deemed necessary on your engine because of the headers ?

I got them from Boomer, I bought them from him when I bought the plug wires from him which was part of the deal when I bought the chrome intake from him, so I can't say what I paid for them since it was all part of a package deal.

So I say call Boomer, and ask him how much they are. However, let me say they work very well.

last summer i had the mopar headers not coated or wraped. the only thing that i heat shielded was the passenger side abs wire, starter cable and the steering shaft. no problems at all with anything else. the ac didnt work to good though but who cares. this year i caoted them and much cooler under the hood now the ac works fine

WOW!! That's amazing. Who did your coating????

I have coated Belangers and the underhood heat is AT LEAST 20 degrees cooler than stock on my truck. :dontknow: I can grab hold of the headers with my bare hands just a few minutes after shutting the engine down and not get burned. :confused:

Coated Bellangers and no issues as of yet.

hmmmm, the last four guys posting say they had no issues without shielding....... maybe i should have polled this question..... looks to be 50/50 @ this point.......

anyone else ?

I didn't shield anything and have had ZERO issues with heat. Everything is in great working order. Just don't (obviously) let anything ride close to the headers, just as you wouldn't let anything touch the stock manifolds.

If you have a Paxton you have a whole separate set of issues to consider.
 
I have the coated Belangers on my QC. I have the stock heat shields on my plug wires. I also installed some heat shielding around my battery cable to the starter near the starter, and the shift cable for the auto tranny where it crosses under the headers where the 5 pipes come together. The battery to starter cable was not in contact with the headers but was close. The shift cable was in contact with the header. I was concerned heat might be an issue with either or both. I cut fingers out of kevlar gloves and used that as the initial wrapping, bought some aluminum foil coated exhaust insulation and wrapped that around the kevlar, then wrapped that with final wrapping of aluminum a/c adhesive tape. It's not something that can be seen without getting under the truck, and isn't unsightly (was patient and tried to do it neatly) anyway. I did the heat shielding before ever starting the truck after the installation. Not sure If I'd have had any problems without the heat shielding. I haven't with it.
