question for those with coated headers ?

WOW!! That's amazing. Who did your coating????

I have coated Belangers and the underhood heat is AT LEAST 20 degrees cooler than stock on my truck. :dontknow: I can grab hold of the headers with my bare hands just a few minutes after shutting the engine down and not get burned.

Just saw this, Jet-Hot did them. From what I was told from the tech. its the best coating they offer for both Looks and heat.:dontknow:

i too am going to jet-hot coat my b&b's.....

btw, did you reuse the existing bolts for the headers to heads application ?? were the flanges on the header bolt holes the same as on the exhaust manifolds ?

thanks.

I would not reuse those ugly ass bolts. Get some Stage 8 or ARP header bolts. They look 100 times better and they're easier to put on/take off because the heads are so much smaller.

No way!!! They wont fit anyways lol....When it comes time to bolt everything in if your by yourself plan on it being a good 8 - 10 hour day.

I believe the bolts supplied are Stage 8, they look decent...

Make sure to use some threadlocker on the bolts. Start the truck up until the manifolds get hot, and retorque. After 500 miles also retorque.

I think he was asking if he should reuse the factory bolts, if that is the question, they are not Stage 8 bolts. Stage 8 are 12 pt polished stainless bolts with locks on them. They look killer, althought they're a royal PITA to put on...

My mistake, they arent Stage 8. Those do look sweet, Ill have to pick some up.

They factory bolts cannot be used for the B&B's.

nice pics........

Stage 8 ? do you mean grade 8 bolts ?

ok, can't use stock bolts....... do you remember the thread size & bolt lengths ?? where'd ya get 'em ? i'd like to pick some before my headers show up.........

thanks guys.:D

No, they aren't grade 8 hardness, their name is Stage 8. Here's a link to thier web site that explains them, and a link to which part number you need. If you're installing thick flange headers, which I assume you are, you need the longer (8909B) bolts. You can order them anywhere, IE Summit, Jeg's, etc...

Hope that helps,

this is also the route i'm going...(coated oem manifolds), trying to figure out what size bolts i need. is the part # 8909 the one i need?

this is an e-mail response from stage 8....:dontknow:

Scot,

As of now we haven’t assembled a bolt kit for the stock exhaust manifolds on the Dodge V10, although we do have a kit for header use. Given that we would be able to make a kit for the stock exhaust manifolds with some help from you. I would need bolt length info to create a kit if that’s possible. I do know the bolt size is 5/16-18 but the length info would be much appreciated, measure the bolt length from under the head.

Feel free to call me direct so we can discuss your application.

can you tell me what the grade & length of bolt you used to attach your headers to the heads ?? apparrently, the bolt thread is 5/16-18 (thanks SANCHOBA) & stage 8 is a good option (thanks Texas Yellow Fever), but i need a bolt length for sure - whichever way i go.......

thanks.:D

i re-read your post.....

if i understand your post, the b&b's come with the bolts needed for header to heads install ??

thanks.

Yes they come with everything needed to install the entire system.

Use threadlock on them.

It can be picked up at a local Auo parts store. I used Blue Threadlock, its medium grade. It comes in what looks like Glue Sticks.
