Hello,
I am new to your forum and I'm real close to purchasing a 2005 quad cab SRT10 and wanted to get some opinions on this truck. This particular one has 6,400 miles and was a dodge dealer rep vehicle. Went for a test drive and love the way the truck looks and drives, however I was not overly impressed with the launch performance with the automatic. I suppose I didnt really mash the pedal too hard as there was a relatively nervous salesmen with me. I see there are some ECU (computer) mods out there. Do they make a significant difference? Has anyone had any problems with the automatic? Seems like alot of HP to be handled long term by a slushbox. Dealer is asking 33k,I am trying to beat him down to 30. Would that be a decent deal?

Thanks
John

33K is a good deal. What options does it have? How much wear on the tires? If you can try and get some new tires.

A stock QC will be sluggish. You can get a Stage 2 flash and wake it up quite a bit. Stage 2 flash will gain you around 80 RWHP and 100 TRQ in the lower RPM bands (Not max). With a stage 2 you will have to work on the launch more so you don't spin the tires. I advise you get a whole new PCM to swap back and forth. That way if you need to tow or need some warranty work you just need a few minutes to change out the PCM. Welcome to the forum John!!

Go smoke!

I love my QC and it is all stock! Mine had similar miles (5800) when I bought it, but I have never felt it was sluggish. When you are by yourself, it will drive a lot different!! :D

I am planning a Stage II as well, but I am not in a hurry, this thing is still fun to drive!

BTW, what color is it? Red is by far the fastest! :D :D

Welcome to the forum...If you do a search on transmission, you will get many many hours of reading on the subject. To summarize, the 48r transmission in the automatic does not like high RPM's and doesn't take well to modified trucks. I would say if you plan on modding heavily (paxton/nitrous / etc..) then plan on building up the transmission. If you plan on leaving it stock or maybe a stage 2 , then you should be good for a while :D

As for the RC....same thing, if you plan on modding heavily, then the clutch will need to be stepped up along with the hydraulics, but the transmissions are pretty much bullet-proof...

Either way, you will have the biggest grin...

Once again, Welcome to the Fourm!!

Maybe sluggish isn't the right term. I guess it would depend on what he was driving before and if he drove a RC. Those factors would make a difference on how the response of the tuck is perceived.

Thanks for the quick response, as you could tell I getting pretty amped about picking up vehicle. How much will another PCM run? Also I have seen a ram air kit online that makes the scoop function. Claim is 30 HP(seems a little wacky). Options in the truck are Sirius radio w/DVD nav,and not alot else from what I could tell. I looked at the sticker and for some reason the Tonneau cover was deleted off the sticker. I would like to find out how much for that also if anyone knows..

DVD nav was not an option for the 05. They come with 2 CD's. If you get the truck make sure you have the correct CD's and not the DVD's. Early 05's had the tonneau cover delete due to a back order of the covers. They just sent out the trucks without the covers and gave a credit back. The ram air kit has had some questionable gains. With air intakes I think it comes down to what you like. A drop in filter has shown to be just as good as a CAI, but not always. Get what you like for both performace and looks. I think a new PCM with the flash in it runs somwhere around $850 or so. Contact Boomer (Gary) at www.x-metal.com or send him a PM. He is a vendor here. For more info on the flash go to http://www.bgchrysler.com/Service/High_Performance_B_G_Flash/high_performance_b_g_flash.html

like smoke said stage 2 is the best mod for the money by far, if your going with turbos or paxton later on id go with a vec.

$33K sounds like a pretty good deal. I got the stage II flash, and like others have said, it is the best bang for the buck out there for the QC.

Buy the thing, you won't be sorry!! In fact I predict a grin from ear to ear for months to come!!

Welcome!! :burnout:

Yeah if your mods aint doin it I imagine nothing would. :D I will let you know what happens, I'm gonna offer them 30k..Tires on the truck are probably about 80%. Oh and when I said sluggish that may have been the wrong adjective. The NAV thing has me scratching my head though. I added a picture of the interior

Yep that is the CD nav unit. RB4 I think is the number. Make sure there are 2 CD's for the nav unit. One for each coast. If you have a DVD then it won't work. The 06's got the upgrade to the RB1 which is the DVD unit.

Around 800 bucks from the factory - not sure as a dealer installed item.

Thanks to all for the enthusiastic welcome. Anyone know of what the production numbers are on this bad boy for 2004-06? I'm gonna drive this and have some fun for a couple years, I need something to tide me over until the Challenger comes out!:D

2004- 3057 trucks made
2005- Only Dr. Z know and he ain't talking.
2006- All those suck anyway so no one cares.

I would guess total at less then 15K trucks.

$33k sounds fair, $30 would be better :D

Drop-in filter, magnaflow, and flash....should run about $1600 all together, get the extra PCM....best bang for the buck....likely, this has already been posted 3 times in this thread.... :dontknow:
