Well I pick up my 05 QC in a week and one of the things that I want to get for it off the bat due to the fact that it is going to be the primary family vehicle is the cylinder deactivation has anyone seen it installed it or heard and pros or cons let me know...........Thanks:hello:

we have seen pics of one on ebay with it but i believe that there is no first hand knowledge of that setup oh and welcome to the rbc

First, welcome to the club............there is/was a SRT10 on Ebay that has cyl deactivation...........IMO I would be very cautious...the cyl deactivation is very complex....I just would not trust an after market unit...

Well thats where I got the idea from when I was looking for mine..........I do agree with the cautiousness.......thats why I want to do alot of research before I jump.........

Welcome:rock: Congrats on the new truck. I say screw the cylinder deactivation:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

I must be losing it.....

Why would one go out and buy a truck with a Viper V-10 motor in it and then deactivate some of the cylinders......? I mean wtf? :dontknow:

Why not go out and buy a truck with the desired number of cylinders in the first place...?

Isn't this a bit like reinventing the wheel...?

It's no wonder (that) I say "welcome to the asylum...."

I know it seems like a oxy-moron but hey can we be a little bit realistic for a sec whats wrong with having a 500hp vehicle you can burn tires off with all day and also load up the family and go on a trip and get 20 mpg its called having the best of both worlds.......but hey man thanks for the welcome......looking forward to future conversations with you........:hello: ]

Get a SCT and you will get better MPG then stock. You could also get a tune for 89 OCT. However I would only use 93 as the extra $5 a tank is worth it.

I second this. If you're thinking about gas mileage in this truck....forget it lol. It wasnt made to get 20mpg.

Speed

Welcome to the club.

I agree with the others . . If you're buying a QC as a primary family vehicle and you're deeply concerned about the MPG - this truck isn't going to cater to your needs. I've never seen/heard of a QC getting above 15MPG on the freeway.

If I were you, I would buy the truck. Then spend the money you were to spend on a fancy cylinder deactivation widget and buy a inexpensive sedan or SUV. You'll thank me later.

Welcome to the site!!!

welcome
you can get about 15-16 mpg on the highway but if you drive it it will be around 10. If you bought this to be easy on fuel you have the wrong truck it is fast and fun but the fuel is the downside

Buy the truck, drive the snot out of it, then get in your high MPG sedan to commute. You can buy a nice used car with the money you will spend on trying to develop a cylinder deactivation system. There's got to be a reason the guy never marketed the system.

Hahhaahahahahaaa!!!! Sorry about that bro!! We all have to deal with certain ex police happy guys here!! Anyway I have talked to a couple of companies here in Washington that work with the computer reflash systems that allow your truck to do that. What you have to becareful of, is that neither one of these companies would guarantee that it wouldn't cause engine failure. Be careful if you decide to do this and make sure they will waranty the engine if it fails!!!

Roz, not sure were you recieved the info on any QC getting 15mpg :) I only get 10 hahaha...

Flyinglow----I didn't get better mileage with my sct...actually lost around 2 mpg ...and the tuner has not been able to get it back...Can't even retreive the original tune:mad:

My mileage picked up about 1 to 2 after my B&G tune and cat back. I was shocked. But on the pre dyno runs and cruising she was pretty rich.
