I was wondering if any one on here has autocrossed their truck. I know alot of you drag race but I never heard of anyone autocrossing. I gotta a couple of friends of mine that Race throughout the season and wanted to know if I was gonna join, most of them have cars so they'll have an unfair advantage. But one of them decided to try and run his ford f-150 Harleydavidson edition. I think I can take him but I'm just looking for some pointers. I gotta few months to prepare cause racin season doent start till the end of april. So tell me what ya think. (Pics and vids if ya got them!!)

i would jump at the chance to put my truck on a roadcourse (is this what your talking about?) i have heard they do very well,i think it will suprise you and your competition! you might consider lowering the truck for better stability (at least level it out by dropping the rear)

I plan on a lowering kit as soon as taxes come in. along with a cai, exhaust, and B&m short shift

I did it with my Lightning, and it is different I know there was a member with his sig of a picture of his truck on a road course, damn it who was it.

i know for a fact they handle really well...for what they are...as soon as you forget it's a truck with no weight over the bed, it'll remind you....i'd like to do it more, but time and money (just like everything else) is not permitting...best thing after the suspension...BRAKES....mine were toasted after about 4 laps...5200 lbs. don't help...upgrade rotors and pads, and you'll be fine

Dan hit it right on the head. Brakes will be gone. I can only imagine what they will look like, touch them and tell me what happens.

if i would have known how bad they were before i left michigan, i probably would have went to autozone and bought some cheapies to ride the 1k mile trip home...
they were checked all throughout the compound, blistered around the edges, and cracks were everywhere on the faces of the pads, and it looked a tad as if they'd started to remove themselves off the metal backer...

plus your pedal will feel like it's mounted on devil's food cake...

i still got a few as a "memorable reminder"

BTW, it's HV SRT that road races his 06 RC, i think....

rode with a pro driver at the SRT Track Experience. these big beasts do do very well.

autocross sounds interestin for sure. sort of like drag racin with curves.

Watkins Glen & Laguna Seca are 1/2 on my road course bucket list

Thanks for the info guys I gotta little work to do but I plan on givin it a shot. I'll keep ya posted on my progress.

Keep the brakes cool and keep the oil temp down and you will be fine. As far as speed, these trucks have a very bad tight in/loose off condition if you can handle that you can haul ass!!!

I used to autocross mine. It was a blast! The SCCA puts our trucks in the same catagory as some models of mustang and camaro. YouTube is blocked at work :( , but if you do a search for usbman23, you will find a video of one of my autocross runs. I think it is named Andy _____ Auto-X or something. Our trucks do suprisingly well. I had no suspension mods and was faster than many.

don't ask me how i know...:(

I used to hit VIR in my truck a couple of times a year. It depends on the autocross how much prep you have to do compared to a road course.

My check list:

Flush and replace break fluid - Motul 600
Check pads, bring an extra set
Check tires for wear and damage - Check tire pressure before and after each run. I typically started around 35psi cold and took a pound out or two through the day depending on temps.

Check QA1 settings - If applicable
Change Oil/Filter
Check all other fluids
Clean air filter

Bring jack, tools, fluids

In a tighter autocross cone track, you will end up driving with both feet the entire time....assuming you are only running 10-15mins a pop. Trail braking and keeping the chassis settled will help in those tight transitions and drifting through corners.

If you are using decent fluid, your brakes can take a beating..trust me :D So have fun and give it hell. Just make sure you drive around a little bit after each run to cool the brakes and driveline....oh and dont use your emergency when you park it.
