When I am cursing at 60 to 70 mph and floorboard it black smoke comes from the exhaust. The truck does not use a drop of oil and changed every 3-4K miles. Plugs have 50K and no fouling. Wondering if the mixture is a little rich. :dontknow: Runs fine and no problems just smoke. Big puff then a little till I back off the gas. Any help would be appreciated.

WOT is safe rich which can be tuned leaner. We'll wideband it next time to see where she's at Shorty. It would ONLY be at WOT, the other 99% of your driving is 14.7:1 stoich

Black Smoke is Fuel.
Gray/Blue Smoke is Oil.

10 cylinders, 505 cubic inch, 3" exh (no cats?), wide open air intake, performance tune & some piston carbon from all the times you weren't beating it = yea, you will get some stuff out the exhaust! Checking the tune on a dyno would be first on my list.

After looking at the carbon on my old pistons I will be useing fuel injection cleaner religiously from now on.

Amsoil fuel inj./fuel system is the best IMVHO:rock:

Is it throwing any error codes? Seem it should if it is that rich

Guys it's nowhere near the extreme situation it sounds. Not plug fouling type situation. That would be and Idle/cruise type richness which he has no issue. He sees a light plume of black/grey ish smoke at WOT which indicates a slightly rich Mixture in that area of load.

Do I understand you to say that it is tuned for my type of driving and a little rich at WOT, which is not that often? Leaning down for no smoke at WOT may make is a little lean for my every day driving?

Sounds like I need to keep it where it is and leave a little soot on the windshield of the guys I blow by on the passes. :D
