I'm in the process of putting my 10 away for the winter. Jersey roads and salt last year was an adventure. But I got an 06 jeep laredo. It's running fine 200k + miles all highway. Went to start it the other day. Didn't turn at first. Tried another time and went. Then was fine for a few days. Went to start it the other night when i was in Atlantic City of all places. Done wouldn't turn nothing for about an hour. Started banging on the starter with a hammer. Miraculously it turned on and we made it home. I figure it's the starter but anyone else ever have this problem?

Sure sounds like a starter especially with that mileage bud

the battery is fine all power and everything. Just weird that it would work one day then the next not then be fine...looks like ill be installing a new starter though.

That body style grand Cherokee is famous for some starting issues. The starter is very close to the exhaust and there is a heat shield that is supposed to be installed however if the starter was every replaced a lot of techs leave the heat shield off which leads to starters failing continuously (about once a year). It could also be a wireless control module not recognizing the key, also a common issue. I would start with a starter, verify the heat shield is there and if not make sure you put a new one on. Any other questions feel free to PM me.

Hey thanks guys. This site really is the best. Sad about putting her away all winter, but I'll have some new goodies come spring time to install :)

I have never had that problem, but don't misplace that hammer.

Ah the Old roulette wheel syndrome. The brushes (electrical contact not tooth) hit the bad spot on the starter winding (commentator) and no go. If the winding stop in a good spot you get to the drive your car
