Will 100 octane give a boosted vehicle any advantages without another tune?

Just curious, found some here. Expensive though, 5.60/Gallon!!

as far as i know the only time you need to bost the octain is when you hear pinging ... and if you add extra octain it wont make any diff unless the engine is asking for it " pinging' but im not 100%

nope....however it is good insurance if the tune you have now is aggressive....if you are not getting any detonation you don't need it...

common nowwhat what do you know you are only pushing 1000+ hp and run 10s .. quit spouting off your mouth LOLOL.. :)....

hey guess i was right 2 :) lol

I don't Know if this anwers your question. A guy just moved down the street from me and he has a srt 4 that is boosted and has a tune. He said the 100 octane helps because the pcm Adjusts for spark advance and air fuel (taking advantage of the 100 Octane):dontknow: Thats what he exactly told me.

Thanks, will a higher octane actually make the air/fuel mixture run richer?
it will not make it run richer....but it will keep it from running leaner....burns slower....

Octane above the level needed to prevent detonation, can actually harm performance. An example would be my friend Joe Donovan tuning a roe blown GTS this weekend. In an effort to push past the 720WHP mark, they decided to add 104 VP to the tank. The car lost 40WHP with zero changes, and even with additional timing could not get back tot he power made on pump gas, simply because the burn rate was slowed down way too much by the higher octane. As Mike said, it is good insurance if you have an aggressive tune however. As far as any vehicles PCM compensating for it, that is flat incorrect unless the tune is causing the knock sensors to have the PCM pull timing. If no timing is being pulled on pump gas, none will certainly be added by the PCM alone (without "tuning" it into the PCM) if a higher octane fuel is used.

No. Air/fuel mixture is unaffected by the octane of the gasoline. The increased octane simply prevents the mixture from igniting before it is supposed to. This becomes more of an issue with higher compression engines, boost, and/or increased ignition timing.

Our new ride won't run well on much less than 118 (Hey, what do you expect a 577cid engine that makes 900+hp on all motor to run on?). I don't believe we'll be making many road trips in it.;)

Thanks for the great answers evryone, I will be sticking with 93 Octane!!

Smart man.

It's funny how many people think that Octane adds power. It doesn't.

Justin thanks for saving me time I really didn't want to write all this out!:D

Although race gas may or may not add any horspower. It depends on what you hve done to your vehicle. There are other additive in race that make horsepower. It's not just a higher octain gas. I am willing to bet if you put in 100 octain gas. your probably going to notice either more power or a smoother running engine.
