I have been using a Valentine 1 for the better part of 18 years, and I swear by it. Today I was discussing detectors and jammerswith another member in another thread. Realizing his setup, and that I have been very lucky with my V1, I just invested in a Passport SR7 with Jammers (laser), which I intend to use in parallell with my V1.

Any "pro's" here with input on which setup works best? Anyone have studies/references or empirical data supporting efficiency or the benefits with a certain setup?

I don't want to become ****y/arrogant and start using a heavier right foot. I merely resort to self ciscipline and the simple fact that my luck will run out one day too, and drive carefully/selectively until then...

Thanks in advance,

Anders

escort 8500 x50 blue series here and love it. although i have debated the one you build right into vehicle with just a small unit that sits next to gauge cluster. also made by escort :)

If your talking about the new DIY model, the only issue is that the sensors mount in the front. No rear action (No pun intended, well maybe):elefant:

I also looked at it and was thinking the same:dontknow:

I also have the escort 8500 with the zr4 laser shifter (laser jammers are against the law) the zr4 is the shit if you have a heavy foot. was doin 130 one time when it went off slow down in a hurry turned it off and crusied by (sweating like a mofo) just a very pissed of look on his face. I am switching the 8500 for the 9500 with stop light camera detector/gps but it all still hooks up to the zr4 which also increases its distance. And it covers 2 in the front and 1 in the rear. But from what I remember when I got mine they where trying to make them illegal. It will work on 95% of the laser guns out there. It is worth it.

I had the escort 8500 x50. I recently got the valentine 1 and there is no contest. valentine one is allot better. Also laser jammers are only illegal in some states. Not all. In California they are a fix it ticket until you have four of them.

personally, i don't think any of them work as well as doing the speed limit...... ;) but that's me, now, with too much experience with radar/laser detectors....... :(

you and me both, comming from truck driving you get used to doing 5+-mph

but have noticed lately heck in my area they dont even bother you at 10 over anymore:confused:

I have a Valentine1. Even with that, I keep it within 10mph over the limit 90% of the time:D Been driving for 7 years... not tickets so far:elefant: knock on wood.

I've been using the escort 9500ix since the day it came out, and i love it best detector i have owned. Before that i had the escort 8500 x50 and that was a good one as well, but i liked the idea of having the speed camera's and the gps to block out false signals while driving. I was planning on getting the new escort redline but i live in nj so detectors are not illegal and the little increase in distance is not worth loosing the gps and speed camera function imo.

I'm in the process now of maybe getting laser jammers as i will be moving out to pa for school for about 9-12 months and when i made the 6 hour trip last week i past 6-7 pa cops hiding sitting with their radar guns out, in nj their all lazy it seems and just sit with their car mounted units on, or nothing at all. So I'm still debating if it is something i should pick up just to be safe, while I'm driving out there or coming home for the weekends.

Personally i was looking at getting the new Blinder m47 laser jammer as it is the first one to offer updates as new laser guns and other types of laser come out. And it has 2 front mounted units and 2 rear mounted units as well, just encase a cop tries to get you from the rear. It's a lot of money to invest in something that you may only need 1 or 2 times but i guess it's better then getting a ticket and having insurance go up or having to pay the yearly fee's for points to the dmv.

I have two Passport 8500's, a blue and a red...they work well...but the speed is the best approach...our trucks draw attention and that can be a problem if you tend to go a little fast.

The purists say you need to have front and rear jammers too to be really safe...

One of the one's I have was Woody's (RIP brother)...

From what I've been told Veil Shield is one of the best things available for blocking laser, especially on most newer vehicles with a lot of headlight area.

As for radar detectors I like my old V1 but I'm going to be changing to the new passport.

Unless the new passports have rear facing radar and arrows showing you where the signal is coming from I wouldn't bother. I can't even imagine what good a radar detector is if you don't know where the signal is coming from. Also I get shot from behind on and off exit ramps all of the time and if you don't have anything out back your screwed unless you get lucky and get a little bounce back. I also would suggest not worrying about laser jamming all of that much or at least not making it a priority. I have only been shot with laser 2 times in 4 years with V1. I put about 20 to 30 miles a year on vehicles throughout out the entire country.

PASSPORT 9500ci is the one i am looking at. has front and rear detection plus gps suppose to be one of the best :)

When the 9500 and 8500 are connected to the zr4 it tells you, rear or front when the laser hits. Also the V1 is a detector by time it tells you, it is to late anyway, with the laser shifter it scrambles the signal back to the gun until or so you can slow down then you shut it off so he can lock on. Also your right it depends on what state you live in or the area where you mostly drive. If your in the Tri-state Illinois area they use everything and anything to get you. I know for a fact the ZR4 works very well with the 8500, but I am going to just the 9500 upgrade from the 8500.

I have to agree about the V1's ability to show from where the signal is coming from ... have been an Escort consumer since the Passport, and have a SoloII, but there is no comparison to the V1, knowing where it is coming is key.

Laser jammers are a good idea if they use laser a lot in your area, they use it on the Thruway now. Detectors are useless, except to let you know that you need to pull over 'cause you're busted. Haven't checked if they are legal in NY, but considered the state, my guess would be its illegal.

But its better than VA where all radar detectors are illegal.

Not true it was ruled unconstitutional but it is against the law in any state for commercial vehicles. Just found this out yesterday, if your not in a comm vehicle (I.E. company car etc) take the ticket to court and fight it, it will get tossed. Looking for the case now so I can post it.

They repealed the radar detector ban in VA? Wow, was there last year and the sign was still at the stateline ... great news!

Yeah, commercial vehicles and trucks have a different ruling, possibly nationwide?

Signs are still up here and wisconsin, they dont like to tell anyone when new laws pass for the better or screwed up ones get over turned. Like in Illinois I bet 99.5% of the people in the state dont know the we passed a med maryJ act in state congress:elefant: :aetsch: Or a law still on the books in NC whre you can only beat your wife with a stick in front of the county court house on sunday's. WTF:confused: thats from the 1800's though, but it is still on the books ( I DONT RECOMMEND IT)You may find yourself the one getting beat with a stick.........:itsme: :D
