Radar detectors

I have a Escort Passport 8500 X50. It's as cheap as you can go & get a quality detector. Works great and it saved my butt more than once. However the valentine one seems like a quality detector. It will probably be the next one I buy. I like the idea of the arrows to show you which direction the Radar is coming from. However it was about 100 bucks more than the Escort.

I have used just about all of them starting with the old big square box on the dash back in 1976. The Escort 9500 is great but hate the "woman" telling me every time there is a signal light camera. I do not run signal lights so that is never a problem and it also go off while on the freeway every time you pass a camera under the highway. Really annoying. They all work well but remember a couple of things. They do not give you protection against laser as laser does not bounce off of other objects. Once it hits you it is locked you in. On the other hand most cops do not use laser so not a really big deal. Second issue is learning false signals. All automatic doors will set your detector off and learning when the signal legit or false is the greatest help. Gave my Valentine to a friend that had his stolen, keep the Escort as a back up and use a Cobra. One neat thing about the Escort 9500 is it will "remember" false signals and not go off with passing automatic doors or other false signals. I put 50k miles on my 10 last year and have had only one ticket in 3 years and that was cause I had my music up so loud I did not hear the warning. Don't use mine in town as I just do not speed as a habit like I do on our big, long Texas highways. Just be safe and SMART with your detector.

I have the Grand Touring package from V1 in both my truck and the Wifes Escalade. It is basically the V1 with the SAVVY. the SAVVY plugs in to your ODBII and your radar detector plugs directly into it. so no wiring is needed. It also allows you to set a predetermined speed to where it senses an alert below that speed it beeps once and goes into your mute mode. This is awesome for me because if I am going below 45 mph I really could care less about cops because I am usually going with traffic or not speeding much. If I am speeding I am well aware of my surroundings at that time.

The arrows on the V1 are amazing and have saved me before numerous times where a regular radar detector without arrows would not have saved me.

One other quick thing about the V1 is that you can send it in to get software updates. I just did this one that I have had for over 5 years. It cost 199 for this last update that I sent it in for but now I am at the latest and greatest that they offer (the updated a circuit board and software).

I would also suggest using a mirror mount. They make them for all different type of radar detectors but it sure makes for a clean install. Here is the one for my wifes escalade

I have the passport 9500ix for over 4 years now. it's never let me down. I love it in the city as well for the traffic cams. you can get free update via the escort web site. well worth the cash. I am going to try their new passport max on my jeep.

Have the Escort 8500, great unit. Saved my butt several times on highways. When I get new unit will pop for the 9500 series..

there was a company that made a real nice billet mirror bracket for radar detectors.
