Should the jacket over wires be stripped back or just run everything underhood?

I've got mine attached to the left side of the "A" pillar right next to the oil temp gauge so it's not in the direct sunlight coming through the windshield. I didn't strip the wire all the way back. I just gave myself enough wire to connect the hot and ground under the dash and ran another wire from the PCM signal wire to under the dash to make the final connection.

Just did mine...very easy. I did strip back the covering a bit..probably 12 inches or so. And i cut a tiny hole in the round rubber grommet down in front iof the clutch lever on the firewall to get the RPM wire to the PCM. I ran the wire across the engine compartment inside the black plastic shroud that goes all the way across the truck. I opened up the tabs with an icepick and tucked the wire inside, then closed her back up. I mounted the light just to the right of the hazard light button on top of the steering column.
