You can weld around the axle by the differential. It is only spot welded there by DC. Quick beef-up fix for only a few bucks and little time.

I don't know if that is what you are referring to?

Welded for hook up, until he goes around a corner, hits it hard and snaps a axle....... Dangerous very dangerous.

What do you mean welded for hook up? you mean inside the diff?

It can mean one of two things.

Some people weld the spider gears so the have a locked rearend. As BigIke said, it can be dangerous.

The other thing is to weld bracing to the housing so that it does not flex. This can be good or bad depending on how it's done.

You need to find out which it is, and if it's the housing get some pictures and some of us old farts can tell you if it's done right or not.

On the older Mopars the axles were pressed into the housing. I cross strapped one on my dyno and didn't let it settle out and we pulled the axle right out of the housing at 5000 rpm.
Luckily it was a friend of mine and I helped him take it apart and we welded the bearing on the end of the axle then bolted the bearing back into the housing. No more problems.
