Regular Cabs Converted to Automatics

Another thing, this is an 05 per vin and CARFAX. This is not an 04, but why does it have 2 front piston calipers like the 04s and not the 4 front piston calipers that the 05 should have.
Good question on the brakes .. a swap would be the only reason

Yea but looks like it was just pieced together with different parts truck. 04 brakes(why would you downgrade, 2 piston vs 4 piston), 05 transmission, what else lol.

Another thing that discouraged me was that it has a check engine light on and they didn’t bother to check or know what it’s for. I’m in California so this wouldn’t be ideal.

Here’s my text traffic with the sales guy. I appreciate the fact that he answered my questions to the best of his ability. But this for sure sounds like a headache, especially if the dealer doesn’t even want to touch it. I mean over $5k in just visual issues, not including connecting an OBD2 scanner to see what’s wrong with the check engine. Knowing how I am, I would be going through everything to make sure the swap was done correctly and no short cuts were taken. Hence why I offered $10k, even that was a little steep for me with all the unknowns. Let me know your thoughts? Should I have bought it or not? What price would you put on something like this? I still like it and would like to do a swap like this.

The 4 piston caliper are not really necessary, they don’t make them anymore and only used ones are available at an outrageous cost ..
From the sounds of it , you maybe correct about being pieced together from another truck , who knows ….. maybe someone or a previous owner if can be found can help shed light on the Truck.. maybe Tony has info .. see what he says !

Tell them to get the codes causing the light and that should give you that info … turn ignition key ,, on , off on off then on and rad the codes on the trip odometer …

I asked, but the sales guy said the dealership decided against plugging the scanner let along the key trick. Makes you wonder why, do they know something I don’t??? And by the looks of it the Dealership is done with this truck too, since they’re ready to send this truck to an auction.

Appears to me most of the repair estimate are pretty simple to do yourself . Not sure about some of the things they claimed are wrong with it .. power steering pump could be the power steering lines leaking down on the pump and other suspension oil lines we know the seep . Valve cover gaskets who knows maybe just check the torque on the cover bolts same as the trans pan . With oil and power steering leaks could very well be why thing appear to be leaking , who knows without checking it yourself .
The 50 point inspection is total BS and should be done for nothing . Suspension parts like Tie Rod ends are simple replacements ,,, front alignment depending on how far out it is may need to be done .. I’m sure cheaper than the dealer .
Replacing the cabin filter ,, hmmm , I didn’t know these trucks even have one , mine doesn’t !
My opinion is if you’re really interested you need to get it checked out by someone else or check it yourself .. they IMO could very well be fudging to make extra dollars on BS repairs …
If alignment is off how are the tires , how are the brake pads ?
Your right to many questions on the truck site unseen ..
personally I would think a dealer would fix problems before selling a vehicle .. do they have a warranty?

If he decide not to do such a simple check ,, then yes he does know something ..

Yea, I’m not worried about the visual issues. Easy fixes for me, leaking hoses and gaskets pretty normal. Worn suspension parts normal. The unknowns is what worries me, cluster mileage, check engine light, how good of a swap was done. I would have to catch a flight $500 and have the truck shipped to California $1,500. They said it’s drivable but leaking oil and power steering hoses is no good for me. I’ve had a power steering hoses blow before I went with Tony’s hoses. Good thing was I was a few blocks from my house, that was no fun. Too many red flags, especially for that price. He mentioned they’re pretty firm on the price, so I doubt they would go below $20k.

No not in cali for sure!!

And the repair estimate mentions trasmission seal and/or leaks if I read through the list right.

Of course, having no abilities to fix any of this stuff myself limits the worth of my opinion immensly lol ... BUT I'm picky! and if it were me i wouldn't want to buy a Frankenstein truck unless I was able to get a very good price like you offered - or even less.

And this truck has had 9 owners!

And has lived back in the east where it could even have flood damage. I'm sure you've thought of all the possibles. Were there any pics of the underneath?

Anyways good luck with whatever you decide and there are nice Silver single cabs out there looking for a good home

Not necessarily a downgrade, especially when you get a stuck piston and have to rebuild/replace. 04 uses stock 2500 calipers painted red and are still pretty easy to get. Same 15" rotor across the years.

This thing sounds like a Frankenstein's monster. Look closely at the door jamb sticker....it's been peeled. If I had to hazard a guess it's an 04 that was bought with either no title or salvage title and whoever did....this......had a wrecked 05 quad cab that they combined it with and used the clean VIN & title of the quad cab after an unreported accident. Willing to bet the VIN on the engine doesn't jive with the door jamb sticker nor the dash panel.

We will call it "Frank" hahahaha!!

Yea that could be a possibility. 04 single cab srt10, 05 quad cab srt10 cluster, engine/trans, vin swapped.
