First of all, that joke was a post WWII favorite, but it was a shot at the Italians and not the French....

During WWII, those French resistance fighters were some baddass sunzabitches. Fierce, skilled and tenacious fighters....

My Dad used to tell that fkn joke about every other day during the late 40's early 50's........

Rof........

Correct Sir. This is meant as a contemporary joke.

But for the French assistance (wasn't it Boston harbour?)the U.S. might not exist.

Many renegade Frenchmen, one example being the nefarious French pirate Jean LaFitte, were instrumental in the U.S. winning the Battle of New Orleans....

The French and the British had a long and storied history of fkn and fightin'... The reign of Henry V being one shining example .... The enemy of my enemy is my ally...........

Their President isn't the SFB that Jack Chirac was. He's very pro- U.S....

I think Bill O'Reilly and all those who hate the French should be more aware of the fact that much of the reason for tensions between us and the French is not so much personal as (it is) political......

Not to mention how the spoiled rotten, selfish Americans can (sometimes) act when we visit other countries.....

A little hint: "When you visit France or any foreign country, remember to learn enough of the language to get by. They don't have to learn your language everywhere in the fkn world."

You jogged my memory. Way back when I found out I was

being transferred to another country I immediately located and studied

the other language so that when I arrived I could at least say thank you

yes mam/sir etc. After being there a short time I was appalled and shamed

at how rude and disrespectful many of the other soldiers were towards

the native people, especially since I was powerless to stop it.

Years later I attended a training class on multiculturalism and the

intructor said there were supposedly countries that we have troops in

and only troops from the deep south raised like I was with strict rules of

deportment, one being "When your on another mans land you keep your

hat in your hand", were allowed to be stationed there.

You know Damn, thinking about it I'm not sure I can really blame some

folks for not caring too much for us.:(
