This won't be of much interest to some of the younger guys, but Lynette and I are leaving in a few minutes to see Ringo Starr and his all star band...

Should be a lotta fun.... Ringo has (Johnny's brother) Edgar Winter on keyboards. I really loved his band "White Trash" with Jerry La Croix on harmonica and lead vocals... He sounded like David Clayton Thomas (BST) only more raw...

I hope it's a good show... Ringo has a propensity to sing lyrics in any order that memory serves.....funny bastard... But he's been a household word for my generation for 43 years..... It'll be nice to see him again...

If ya want I'll give y'all a review when I get home....

Then she held out a ten pound bag of cocaine,
She said it was the finest in the land.

I can't picture Edgar playing with Ringo, I think I would like to see that.

Yeah - we want pics or video or sumpin!!!

Ringo rocks, he is just Ringo .... ;)

Here's my review of Ringo Starr and His All Star Band at Pala Casino.

On a 1-100 scale, I'd give tonight's performance a solid 80......

On a 1-100 scale, I'd give the sound crew a GLOCK 21 - 2 taps behind the ear...

.. After all, any musician who's about to play his solo wants the people to hear it.... You don't fall asleep at the switch and finally turn the poor bastard up after he's 3/4 of the way finished.... Crimoney...!

OK, so I'm a guy who knows this business like the back of my hand..... and in some ways that kinda ruins it for me....

But, I love Ringo Starr, he handles a crowd like he was born in the same house with them.......a born frontman.... He shmoozes between songs just enough to catch his breath (hell, he's 64) and he plays every song you ever wanted to hear him play.

His All Stars consisted (on this tour) of Edgar ( Frankenstein- Free Ride ) Winter on alto sax and assorted keyboards, Rod ("Hold your Head High") Argent, Billy Squire on lead guitar and vocals, Richard Marx, guitars and vocals, Hamish Stewart (Average White Band) on bass and the amazing Sheila (or as Ringo says "Sheeler") E on drums and vocals...She's a great drummer.

Each guest star in the band was featured soloist at one or more points in the show except for Hamish Stewart of AWB. They all performed very well on their instruments, but some suffered vocally with some of the high notes.... Hey butthole, you try singing the high notes in "Free Ride" when your 59 yrs old...

The guest appearances gave Ringo a chance to play drums with Sheila E and go to the dressing room for some form of "musician type" refreshments.

The crowd was very appreciative as Ringo sang all their favorite 'Ringo' Beatle's songs.......songs like "Act Naturally" (written by Buck Owens) "It Don't Come Easy", "Photograph", "Yellow Submarine" and a host of others which brought the crowd to their feet singing and clapping their hands.

The finale was the ever popular "With a Little Help form my Friends" which once again got a great crowd response and served as a fitting song for their encore and the close of the show.....

It was a great show and even Lynette seemed to get into the spirit of things singing right along with everyone else..... Yes.... I did too........but I sang the missing Beatles harmony parts just to help out a bit.

All in all, Ringo puts on a great show and has fine quality people around him.....

If he's in your town and you can get tickets..... It's worth 25 bucks just for the good vibes and memorable Beatles music. But if yer too young to remember or you don't like the Beatles, I feel sorry for ya....

You missed a great time...........

I'm going upstairs...........Cya round noon..........

God Bless you all........and GOODNIGHT......................!!!!!!!!!

How can you not like Ringo? IMO, he was part of the most important R&R band of all time! I Tivoed his appearance on the Tonight Show last week. His all star tour has always been great. Plus, he was extremely underated as a drummer. If you go back and analyze his drumming with the Beatles it was shear genuis! The drum parts were always perfect for the songs. Not too much, not too little - just right. I interviewed Randy Bachman (BTO) once for a documentary I did on him. He has been in Ringo's all star band a number of times before and Randy said Ringo is his all time favorite drummer, bar none. Randy said that Ringo never had to prove anything to the audience. He just laid down a good solid back beat that complimented what everyone else was playing.

I know what you mean about crappy sound. I tend to pay to much attention to the technical side and let it detract from the performance. I've run sound for music and stage and it's not as easy as it looks. But, at that level you have to be alert and concentrate. There aren't many excuses left for missing a solo with today's technology.

Anyway, glad you had a good time.

I have never see Richard Starkey in person, however I have liked a lot of his music. I must say though Sheila E is totally beautiful. I saw her on TV not long ago, and she is still HOT.

Bill.

Sounds like a blast. Argent was always great and what can you say about Edgar Winter? The only thing I don't like about him is that he isn't Johnny LOL. But I'm pissed at you now, I have "Photograph" stuck in my head LOL.

Yer Right too Bob, Ringo's rendition of "Photograph" (co-written with George Harrison) can be a tear jerker now that George has gone home.... I love that song.

And Johnny Winter's version of "Good Mornin' Little School Girl" (among others) is texbook stuff for any "Texas blues" man.

It's true, after all her soloing (etc) I only heard her miss about 6 or 7 times..... (out of thousands of strokes)...

Plus her timbale' soloing was very impressive..... She's got good math skills...

If I'da known we had so many real music junkies on this site I would'a started more music threads long ago.....

Y'all rule....

Yes, it really was a good time...... But, as Big Asp sez, knowing stuff sometimes does ruin it abit for ya.... But I can still enjoy the vibe if I really concentrate.....
