Rocker Marks Under Valve Cover

I noticed that I had a small oil leak on my block which traced up to the VC.
So I checked to see if the bolts had loosened, seemed tight still, but went ahead and ordered a new gasket anyway just to be sure.


Once I got the VC off on the drivers side, I noticed some marks, one especially caught my attention as it was DEEP!

I read somewhere on here that the first picture has been found on some in the exact same spot. But, the second picture... it seems like it went too far...

My opinion on the first one in the baffle maybe someone put an oil funnel in a little to hard and pushed the baffle close to the rocker and it hit it and moved it out of the way the other mark looks more severe inspect the rocker for breaks/cracked check the bolt make sure it's still tight I thinks its suppose to be 25ft/lbs?

Are you using the factory rockers and camshaft?

Yes. Do the bolts regularly back out?

yup the factory rockers will do they..... I had them as well and it was the first time the covers were off. I bet if 60% of owners took them off they would see the marks there. totally fine. the rear and front rockers are very close to the valve cover and the oil splash guard mount. Order valve cover spacers or get Tony's new valve covers wen he releases them if you want....is it needed? NO

Cant say I would assume that this is normal. I have seen covers off only a couple of these engines, but I would say something is out of whack.

In a 2nd pic looks like u are missing a bolts from baffel .

Indeed there are a few bolts missing that could be your culprit!:rock:

the problems i get on my truck, they are never easy to resolve. the bolts are missing in the picture because i had cleaned the filter. and all are accounted for

i got one person saying its normal, and one person saying its not. if not a clearance issue, then a loose bolt? bad spring? i'd like to catch this before it gets worse. in the 2nd pic its already nicking the valve cover where its raised for the baffle.

From what side do you fill you oil? Maybe they were reversed to opposite sides? I believe they will still mount, but your oil fill will be on the Pass side then.:dontknow:

if they were switched the oil fill cap would be under the firewall making it pretty hard to fill up lol

yeah forsure bro. i never really even thought about them bein able to be switched though.
