Well tonight i took my truck to the shop to clean it up a bit for a car show we have here tomorrow. After i got all done i started it back up and it was running like *#%&! I let it idle for a 20-30 seconds or so and then it started to get better, i made it maybe a block or two away from the shop and i shut it down. Basically it was acting like there was no S/C . After i stopped i tried to put a different Card in the Roe Reader, but it wouldn't accept it... i tried all my cards but the first light would just stay steady no other lights would come on, so after nothing would work i decided to disconnect the negative terminal and see if it would smarten up. This is when it got really nasty, the truck now barely starts and wont even drive!!! :(:(:( At my best guess, the Roe Card Reader went tits up and reset the Tune on the engine.

So what i'm wondering is how do i connect a Laptop to the Roe module?? I'm hoping that it will allow me to get in there and upload a Tune. I know there should be some software but i didn't recieve anything from Roe. :dontknow:

Really needing some help on this issue, any ideas would be appreciated.

PS: It threw only 1 code. P0172-1/1 FUEL SYSTEM RICH - SRT10

Thanks,
Shane

sounds like the vec took a dump. first i would make sure all the wires are cxonnected correctly still. you may have bumped one loose. do you have a wideband a/f gauge? or boost? i would start if and see what the a/f ratio is. then see if its making any boost. if it's not making boost, it will run rich. hope this helps at all

I have heard of this happening if water gets inside the card reader. When you cleaned it did you accidentally get some water in it? Might just need to dry out.

Lets hope its that simple, that would be nice.

Good luck dude.

Check your Fuel Injector connections. I had a similar problem with mine.

Is you Vec in the engine bay or cab??

Gotta love the fail-safe pig rich setting!!

Hope it's something simple! NBT had some serious issues with his VEC as well. Maybe he can chime in too!

:D:D:D

I would think it is a connection issue. Check every injector connection, follow every wire associated with the Vec...the connections are critical.

The major issue with the VEC is solid connections, most all issues are related to one or more connections not being perfect...did you do the VEC install yourself?

Call me... just PM'd you my cell #

Yup, double check the connections.. With the power on, is there a green light on the VEC ?

Do you have the VEC software loaded on your laptop ? If so, you need a DB9 serial cable...if you only have USB on your laptop, you can go to the local Best Buy, Circuit City, etc and get a USB to serial adapter.

You can then read whats programed in the VEC and verify the tune. Hopefully you have the .cbc files saved locally and you can download your tune again. (thats if the reader is truly fubar)

Here is a start for you...

you need a USB to serial cable for your laptop...

locate your VEC...grab this serial port...

vechookup004.jpg

plug in your USB end (assuming you have one installed... if not load appropriate drivers for said device)to your laptop...

Open the ROE software...."it's the Sneakty Pete"

You should be on to this screen after it's open...

then your ready to go.;)

No doubt about it.

Through the laptop, we can see what is loaded in there...and if it's correct...save it to the laptop, address the vec box...clear it, and then reload the program...(I think;) )

just never know what's loaded when she goes default... Certainly not going to lean out...:D

Yeah i'm pretty sure too that it's water..... :( Can't believe i'd be so dumb. :motz:I had even moved the Card Reader beside the PCM from where the shop had installed it. They had mounted it in the second battery box..! It was definatly going to get wet there. I tried to dry it out last night the best I could but it didn't seem to help, that's when i went to disconnecting the negative terminal.

Lol yeah she sure doesn't lean out, i had some pretty amazing fireball shoot out the backend when i started it the first time!! A good 2 foot by 2 foot fireball, my brother said.

Yeah that's the one thing I don't have is the CD.. :( I was going to do some tuning a while ago and I never got around to having Roe send me one...... doh. I'll probably have to phone you to see if we can get the software through email or a filehosting site.

As for the cable, are you disconnecting the cables on the backend and connecting there?? There is no serial port on my Roe Card Reader, it only has a USB connection, like one you'd have on a digital camera.

I'm unsure about the VEC, it's mounted so far back i have no idea what it's doing. As for having default .cbc files that's a negative.. everything was programmed through the Card Reader, it still has a green light though. So i'm guessing it's not totally pooched.

Thanks everyone for your help, hopefully i can get this monster running again,,, the car show is a loss now but there's lots of those to come. :)

Sorry Shane I forgot you have the VECIII box, I have the VECII box, with the software upgrade to VECIII. The cable will evidently be USB/USB.

Good Talking to you, and call me if you need further info/pics. Dave will be an excellent resource as well. I am still screwing around with this software, and I am not familiar with filehosting/newsgroups...ect. I will try to figure it out, and send you the software accordingly. Got the e-mail.

Hey Ken,

I tried to call Dave but he's out of the country for 2 weeks. So i'll probably wait until Monday for any tuning issues.

Thanks for all your help with this!!!!!!!!!!! Especially on your birthday of all days.

I'll have to see if anyone else here has the VECIII software and if i they could get it to me.
