Royal Purple Syncromax Tranny Fluid

[SRT-11]

Has anyone used this? I love RP products, but would love to hear someone chime in with any experience with it...

My plan is to switch out most of my fluids to RP stuff next weekend,

10w40 synthetic for the oil, 25% antifreeze 75% h2o w/ a bottle of purple ice for the coolant, and syncromax for the tranny fluid. Maybe do the pumpkin too, depends on how much time we have.

The only MTF I would recommend is BG Syncroshift II, Full Synthetic

I've used it for years in my 450+ hp FWD car and have never had a single tranny problem (on a bone stock tranny built to hold 100 hp)

it's really amazing stufff!

You will get comments from every direction on this question...I defer to Tremec's recommendation: Use Mobil 1 Syn ATF.

I use 10w30 Mobil 1 engine oil in mine. All the aluminum case transmissions that we overhaul get 10w30 Mobil 1. Never had a failure and some of these trucks tow 20,000 pounds every day all day. That is all the transmission shop my buddy owns puts in theirs. And they do WAY more trans work than me.

the "gates" seem to be less hesitant to "open" i "reccomend" it

Muzzy has been giving me some great advice tho. RP makes great stuff BTW, I'd really love to use for all my lubricants & coolants

here's what I got from Royal Purple:

The 2004 SRT-10 specs a 75w85 for the manual T-56. Our cross reference would be Max Gear 75w90. The Max Gear 75w90 or the Synchromax will both last the same in a manual transmission. The difference between the Max Gear and the Synchromax is Max Gear is like a 10w40 motor oil, while Synchromax is more like a 10w. That is a huge difference. Now the Corvette and some other applications do spec a ATF type fluid for their T-56 transmissions and for that application we would recommend Synchromax. We would go off Dodge on this for the reason that they could have changed a gear in the transmission that would require them to run the gear oil. If it was my truck I would run the Max Gear. My buddy Art at Henson Motors even agrees with the MaxGear.

Also this regarding the oil & diff:

Sorry I stepped out of the office yesterday afternoon. The XPR oil will last longer in your SRT-10, but the way you were talking about the amount of driving you do I would run our motor oil. Here is my recommendation for your truck-

Engine- RP 5w40 or RP 10w40 You can do one of two things, 6,000 miles or two years with a filter change and oil top off at 3,000 miles or 1 year.
If you plan to drive more than this in a two year period you can go 12,000 miles with a filter change and oil top off every 4,000 miles.

I do know there was a guy on Dodge Truck World (who worked at RP) with a Hemi Ram that had a big cam and head work, but it AIN'T no SRT.

yeah, same guy, he calls it an SRT - 8 since it's the same engine, it's a pretty sweet truck, he even has an 06 front end conversion. Really nice guy tho! anyway all that aside, he highly reccommends the Max Gear 75w90, and said that if I didn't like it he'd replace it with Syncromax for me. I need to order this stuff by tomorrow though!

Now this may sound stupid...but considering the two sources

1. The people who manufacture the transmission (Tremec)...
2. A person who works for a lubricant company (Royal Purple)

At face value who would you expect to be the most un-biased and objective in their transmission lubricant recommendation?

Not throwing any stones. Just working the issue.

I am with Prof on this one!!

I put in Mobil Syn ATF in mine and there was a tremendous diff in the ease of shifting!!:rock:

I would like to know why the engineers at Dodge specified a different type of lubricant than that recommended by Tremec. I'd be hesistant to switch without understanding the reason behind their recommendation.

IMO The have priorities that include performance but optimum performance is not at the top of that list. The performance priorities probably driven by words like "minimum warranty claims during initial 36k", "lowest initial expense", "minimal replacement cost", or maybe "we know more about Tremec transmissions than the people who make them".

I'll bet if we looked hard enough we would find some kind of over-arching philosophy written somewhere that says something like: "We are only responsible for the initial 36,000 miles in 95% of our trucks...engineer for that period only, and do it the cheapest way possible."

Just business exigencies at work, the US auto industry is crumbling under its consistently self-destructive decisions over the past 50 or 60 years.

I work on trucks for a living and was telling you what I put in aluminum case transmissions. I run it in my truck and it has been in there for two years and 15,000 miles. I stand behind all the work I do and if it was bad I would have seen some transmission failures which I haven't. The transmissions that I work on have way more load factor on the bearings and gears than the TREMEC in our trucks.
