Royal Purple

Very quick like , dont run the racing oil, it is made for basically short changes for maximum hp

Run the regular oil

As far as viscosity run your regular viscosity 5w-30 or so.

If you are running a SC'r or turbo run a thicker oil such as 15w-40 or so, the high temps of these forced inductions break down the properties quicker.

hope this helps

I run 5w-30 and my oil press. went up to about 50 to 75 psi. Is that OK? I
have heard two different stories. My press. was lower with 0w-40.

Thicker oil should give you a higher pressure. Just like when the oil is cold and your pressure is high. But what I don't know is the higher pressure with the new oil is good or bad. I would guess that it would be OK as long as the oil is in limits.

yes you can get gains.

In a recent Super Chevy mag I think, they took a chevy dually and changed the oil, trans oil, and rear axle oil, gained around 10rwhp and 20 or so lbs of torque.

Mobil 1 is all around synthetic great oil.

Aftermarket oils such as Royal purpal, Red Line, and others have extra properties to help it be a tad slicker, they are just a tad more job specific.

I always figured these as snake oil (no pun intended) claims. I've seen other studies (looking for them now) that debunked this. I don't know Super Chevy May - do you feel it was legit test or is it one of those mags where every story is more like advert? I honestly don't know.

I have run Red Line Two Stroke Racing Synthetic Oil in my race boats with 6 cylinder outboards. Always have had good luck and I know a couple times it has saved me engine problems with high heat! This summer I ran 10,000 RPM and NOS with no problems. :D I think some of the hype is true and some of it is probably not. Like most things you here it is half right.:dontknow: IMHO?

What other options are there besides royal purple that would be good to run in the engine.

I'll try to common sense answer some of the questions, but I am not a oil expert just my experiences

One , oil pressure will increase with a thicker oil, , basically to make it simple the first number say in 5w-30, the 5 is what weight the oil will be at freezing, the second is at operating temp.

As far as different oils , you have mobil, redline, lucas, royal purple, and some others such as shafer.

Your more expensive oils, or specialty oils such as royal purple and redline and so on, have different properties to give higher performance, and better protection properties than the "off the shelf" oils such as mobil. Not taking anything from mobil , for the street it is the best buy for the $.

Do they make a difference?
Yes and no, most of my experience comes from bikes, I have seen 2-7 rwhp from switching from mobil to redline, and get the same protection. But will our trucks get a similar outcome? I really dont know.

The article in Super Chevy? Do I trust it? probably not. Most articles are bought from a manufacturer sometimes and are a little biased.

What I can say is on my duc I raced , which was stroked to a 1026 from a 998 , I ran redline, punished the bike, and at sometimes going in to redline because of gearing issues and never had an oil related problem, and when it was time for rebuild the bearings looked like new.

Honestly on the engine oil side I think we are fine with mobil, the thinner oils give more hp, but a tad thicker gives better protection , especially with forced induction. I think even DC uses 15/40 ro so in there sc'rs.
But I do like there tranny oil and rear axle oil. Even FSTJACK in his SC'd expedition ran redline in the auto, and it made it 126,000 miles, with jack drivin the piss out of it:D

But make your own choice guys, all is good, its just a matter of personal preference.

But I will say I noticed a huge difference swapping my manual tranny fluid to D4 auto redline fluid, It shifted better and was alot quieter

Agree, swapped mine out with the Redline and it shifts much smoother. It also got rid of the cold weather issues. It was in the 30's the other morning and the truck shifted as smooth as if it was 80 degrees out. With the factory oil, reverse and especially second gear was a PIA to shift into when it was cold.

I just changed my order of RP to 10W-40. The vendor I got it from said he contacted RP and they also suggested 10W-40 for our trucks.

Do you think changing out the auto tranny fluid to redline would help as much as with a manual?

This is good info!

THANKS!

sorry guys my internet service is in and out, thats why I am going with a pocket pc,
but bro, the only thing I can tell ya about the redline in the auto is Fstjack put it in his expedition witha sc'r installed and made it to 126,000 miles when history has the ford tranny expiring at 80,000 or so,
I did put it in my QC and it actually seems to shift firmer constantly.

Thanks

That sounds good enough for me! Is it still the D4 auto redline fluid that I put in? Just want to make sure.

No the D4 is for manual trannies, check summit racing, I think it was www.summitracing.com but not sure, find tranny fluids, find redline, then find the one tranny fluid for chrysler that has ATF+4, you can also go to redline oils site and find it also,

Summit does not have the C+ATF. I am sure I can get it though. Would you happen to know how mant quarts?

They have it but you may have to call and ask, Jegs also has it but a dollar or two more I think.

but if I'm not mistaken it was 7 qts, I havent got it here with me, but i think i put in 6.5 qts.
