Sad day for my pet

Today was the day I had to take my pet cat Ling to the vet for her final visit. It was one of the most difficult and sad things I have had to do. She was nearly 18 years old and the only cat I have ever had. I grew up with dogs. She was given to me by my business partner back in 1990. I had no idea how to deal with a cat much less take care of her, but I figured it out and she was so loyal to me. She was a great friend and always greeted me with lots of meows. She was a siamese so she was very vocal and very loving. She was in my life more than any GF, thats how long I have had her.

Her kidneys were failing and her body was begining to become toxic. We also believe she developed a cancerous tumor in her mouth. Last night was a long night as she seemed to be suffering. I called the vet the first thing in the morning and made arrangements to bring her in. I then balled my eyes out like no tomorrow. It was very hard to say goodbye. I know it was time and the right thing to do.

You all are a special group to me and felt compelled to share this with you all. I know we have lots of pets owners and many of you have had to do this before. Anyway, I just wanted to get it out. Thanks for listening.

RIP Ling, aka Stinky, aka Fuzzy, aka Lingers, aka dam cat, aka fricken cat .......LOL we had lots of nicknames for her!

It's plain to see how much you cared for you cat. 18 yrs is a long life for cats. You did a great job. I'v been there a few times with dogs. I cryed like a freakin baby. Feel for you bro.

Sorry for your loss Patrick, I'm on my thrid set of Bulldogs, I know right where your coming from...

Thanks guys. I came home from work early as I wanted to catch my GF before she got here and give her the news. She is gonna really be upset. She really loved my cat too.

Patrick, so sorry for your loss. Pets are family, and loss of family sucks. Hope the memories comfort you at this time Bud
 
Hey Patrick, you have my condolences.....I have lost many pets over the years and understand how tough it is to lose a long lasting friend.

Take it easy and hope you can still enjoy your holiday weekend.

As a fellow pet lover, and one who has lost, I feel your pain.

What gets me through the grieving is to think that I gave that animal the best life possible. Better than anyone else could have done, and far better than if they were in the wild/on the streets.

You should also be very proud. Not many people can maintain and care for a pet for 18 years. Not many can do it for 18 hours.

They're not designed to live forever, but while they are with me they will get the best of everything.

Including my best.

Thats basically what the vet told me. I feel "ok" about what happened, its just sad that she is gone. I have great memories and plan to think about that instead of being sad when remembering her. Or at least thats what I want to do!

Sorry about your loss, losing a long-time companion (animal or human) is about one of the hardest things someone can bear, but we are here to support. Think about the good times, never forget. Godspeed Ling!
 
Yep, it's a hard thing to do. I had to put my dog down about three months ago. He was huge, 140 lbs, and laid with his head in my lap as the drug took effect. It was the saddest thing I ever had to do. Even the vet was tearing up. I'm really sorry for your loss.
 
Thanks guys. I couldnt be in the room. The lady that works the couter at the Vets office whom has been there since before I got Ling. Well she was hugging me, crying with me.......I couldnt watch, so I said my goodbyes and left sobbing uncontrolably!!! Sat in my truck for a long time......it was tough but needed to be done. Thanks again guys. And yep Mike it was a great run. She was with me almost the entire time I have lived on Maui.

Sorry to hear that Patrick. I had to put my dog to sleep and I know how you feel. It was one of the hardest things I had to do.

Patrick,

The greater your ability to love, the greater is the loss when you must say goodbye. The love that you've invested is never lost...and Ling is never far from you.

I see her curled up happily in a big furry ball..... Sleeping peacefully on the front porch of your place in heaven... Just waiting there patiently for the day when you too come home... And when that day comes...as it must for all of us....There will be a joyous reunion.....She will curl up once more in your lap and run her motor for you.....

We'll all be going home someday brother..... And what a joyous reunion it will be....

My advice...get a new kitty or puppy to love.. They will be a soothing balm to your soul. That's what I did when we got Willow... You won't regret it.
