Hi Dan and crew. Is there an option on your PCM flash (I have your blower flash and inlet system) to go into a "safe mode" if/when the truck goes over a certain temperature...either water and/or oil temp? I wasnt sure if this was built into the stock pcm or on yours.

Also, when the fan kicks on sooner with your flash and the 170 thermostat, does it kick in to high fan speed or low (regular fan speed), or is there only one fan speed for the truck?

After doing 2 days of road racing in 95 degree temps I was just curious about whether the computer will go into a safe mode (to prevent engine overheating) and if the fan goes on does it have a high and low fan speed setting that could be adjusted to just run on the high fan speed setting.

what would you want the "safe mode" to do? shut the truck down? with my stage 2, the engine/oil temps don't go over 175-180 in 100 degree weather.

My temps on normal driving days are similar to yours, a bit warmer on 20 minute pedal to the metal road racing sessions.

My friends '96 Cobra will cut the power or go into a safe mode preventing full power...generally his and other '96 Cobras get hot and overheat pretty easily after being run hard for a given period of time.

I was just curious whether it was possible. When you are running on a road course its hard to constantly watch the gauges while running hard in the twisties, straighaways and paying attention to other racers around you. This way, if temps were to get at or above a certain level the truck wouldnt continue to run at 100%...possibly causing conditions that may damage the motor. It would basically be a another set of "eyes" from the computer side of things telling you you're pushing or about to exceed a certain threshold for either oil or water temperatures. A bit of insurance I guess you could say.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We make no changes to what you call a safe mode on the cooling system.

The hydraulic fan works off a "duty cycle" output from the PCM to regulate the fan speed from 0 to 100%. There is no high and low speed setting. The speed is controlled by the hydraulic valve which gets its inputs from the coolant sensor and AC system pressure valve. With our duty cycle change
(for a lower tempreture strategy) and a cooler thermostat the running temps of the engine are lowered. The fan does not run on high all the time, it just trys to controll the temps more aggressively.

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks Dan. I guess I was wondering if you guys could develop a pcm that had a "safe mode" feature. Basically, if the water and/or oil temp would start or go over a certain temperature threshold the pcm would cut back or partially disable full power capability to prevent any further temperature increase and/or potential damage.

So if I understand correctly the stock pcm as well as your blower pcm will allow the truck to run at full potential no matter what the water/oil temperatures are. I was just thinking it would be a nice safety feature. The truck wouldnt shut down persay, just be limited performance-wise til the temps came down to more normal levels.
