hello all im thinking about picking up a 97 saturn sl2 4dr auto trans car with 89 thousand miles on it, i've test driven it, and besides a rattle in the dash which doesn't bother me it seems fine. i was wondering what your expierience was with these cars. the only thing i care about is getting a good amount of miles out of this car. let me know your opinions.

If you're in the Carolina's I think you would be better off contacting 1fast400 and making an offer for his truck...

Welcome aboard.

The early cars were plagued with problems... If the car has over 75000 miles on it, the timing chain(belt?) will need replaced. This costs about $900.

I owned a 94 SL1 and had all kinds of issues, broken rocker arm, bad alternator, warped and pitted calipers, hood strut broke all within 36k miles.

Good luck

Saturn products were never the greatest products until recently.

I am too looking at an economical car to put a lot of miles on as a commuter car. I would suggest a import at this time. They seem to keep their value even with high mileage.

I would check the timing belt though, most small vehicles have them and they need to be changed around 60,000 miles.

Hope this has helped. Good luck on your search.

Will

It's all 40 weight ball bearings today.

yeah they want 3600 for the car, with 89k miles on it. i dunno wether to get it or not, i'd really like a honda just for a commuter car, but they are all so expensive with pretty high miles on them

A HONDA with 130000 miles is better than a Saturn with 80000. ;) :dontknow: :)
