Diesel Dragster runs 203.71 MPH in the quarter mile

Terre Haute, IN - October 20, 2008 -
Scheid Diesel Motorsports' diesel dragster makes another mark in the record books. The fastest diesel dragster ran 203.71 mph in the quarter mile at the Muncie Dragway in Muncie, IN. Saturday October 18, 2008 the Scheid Diesel built dragster, sponsored by Silverline, ran 7.123 at 202.65 mph and backed it up with 6.908 at 203.71 mph.

Scheid Diesel Motorsports has designed the engine for the Spitzer built chassis. This 300 inch rear engine dragster is powered by a Cummins 5.9L B-series diesel engine with twin turbos, water injection and runs on #2 diesel fuel. The engine has been custom designed by Scheid Diesel. The transmission is a Lenco with a Strange Top Loader rear end. Watch for it at the track in spring 2009, don't blink.

Yep Dan Scheid and driver Bo Layne are top class people. They have been pushing all this year to be the first and they have been very damned close many times. Finally they hit the 200mph goal.

Little late on the congrats ?

Better late than never:D They had their dragster at the Mopar Nats 3 or 4 years ago and had some issues building boost for the burnout and launch. Looks like they got it ironed out.

Hey mopower! I was looking thru a HotRod mag the other day and saw your coronet at the pump gas drags. That was awesome. I was at work and told my medic partner, "hey, I know that guy!" Then they had a pic of you working on something in your trunk. Was that you and your car?

Diesels are very powerful, but Damn they stink! The smell is just not worth the power to me. To each their own.

Bill.

That's hauling ass, especially for a diesel. You have to respect what they've done, but I'll stay with gas please. No slow burn for me, I like instant gratification...LOL!!!

Yea that was me. I had put in a new fuel filter before coming to Memphis trying to cover all my bases. I had drained almost all of the fuel because I knew they were going to drain it out in tech inspection. Well the o-ring on my fuel filter cannister was above the fuel level when I changed it.When they filled it up with pump gas at tech it started leaking because it had gotten twisted. All you get is 10 gallons to drive the 30 miles through memphis city driving and make 2 qualifying runs and first elimination pass. On top of that they seal your trunk after you receive your 10 gallons. I got over to the impound area and noticed the leak as did Rob Kinnan (editor of Hot Rod). He said it was a safety issue and allowed me time to fix it although I lost about 1/2 gallon of fuel during the repair. A couple of buddies that were with me ran to a hardware store and bought a square piece of flat rubber and an exacto knife. I cut out a circle and trimmed it till the top edge of the filter cannister would press into it and it actually did not leak!! In fact it is still on there now. And even though I was outgunned and only qualified 22nd out of 42 cars that is what the Pump Gas Drags is all about!! Ooops I hoed up my own thread.:dontknow:
