she needs to be the one holding and picking the gun that feels right. all hands are different size and all guns have a different feel. its always nice to surprise someone with a gift but in this case i think it would be best if she were there to be the determning factor.

as for brands glocks are ok but makesure its a newer model(old ones go boom)
i love my s&w but they are pricy
i have a kimber but its money too


a pawn shop is gonna be ur best bet.
 
Bought my wife a Charter Arms hammerless .38. She shoots it with no problem. Wish I had a pic of her shooting it. She had a blast. Only have one of me shooting it. Then on Father's Day she surprised me with a Glock 27 .40. I love it! Excellent conceal carry gun.

I love that compact glock to carry around with you! I almost got it but It has a smaller magazine.......... but hey with a .40 it's only gonna take one!:rock:

Yeah I love the size. Fits right in the small of my back. Plus being medical support for our Sheriff's Office, if one our deputies goes down, his model 22 mags work in my gun if I were to be his line of defense. You NEVER know!
 
If it is her first gun I would start her with a Walther P22...... fun little cap gun but very functional..... Inexpensinve gun and inexpensive ammo

this is true but teach her to aim for the head or nuts b/c most grown men can take a few shots from a 22 before they're down! Although the damage they do inside of you is crazy since they shred and bounce around inside
 
If It's for fun a .22 would be fine, not for personel defense though. wouldn't go with any less then a .380. Go somewhere where they have a large selection(outdoor world or gander mt.) and let her fit one to her hand,Like shoes a gun has to be comfy.
 
The best advice I got a while back form one of my body guards, when I needed them, was take your lady to a range and have her shot a couple of different models that the guys at the range suggest. You should never buy anything until you have it in your hands and feel comfortable squeezing the trigger. 9 mils are good for first time shooters that want protection.

All in all if you want a gun talk to the experts at your local range. They will help you get what you are comfortable with. If you do decide to get a gun make sure you both go through a local class on gun safety. Owning a gun is a great responsibility. Don't take it lightly.

Just my liberal two cents.

I'm thinking she might want a serious anti-carjack pistol and would go with the Taurus "Judge". If that's too big go with a Bond Arms Snake Slayer. It only has two shots but using a .410 3" shell that should be all she needs. If you want to go ultra small you could look at some Kel Tec handguns.

They make a NEW Judge now! :cool: It's called the "Public Defender" :D .... It still uses .410 and .45 Long Colt, but it's built on Taurus' "k-frame knockoff" compact revolver frame. :)

Does that not use 45/70 ( same lenght as 410) or am I misinformed?? 45 long colt ain't that long of a cartradge and not interchangable with 45 /70( maybe able to use them though like a 44 special in a 44 mag.???
