45/70's case is too big (diameter) to fit the cylinder....

Even if it did fit, it would probably grenade the gun.... even if it didn't grenade, I still wouldn't want to pull the trigger.

That is what promted the law in Cali some years ago when a derringer that fired 45/70 and 410 was put on the market ( the have the same Diam. case)

here's what I roll with holds 14 but it'll only take one it's a Glock .40 that i had nickle plated for looks and longevity!

The bullet diameter of a .45/70 Government round is .458".... The inside diameter of the Judge's barrel is .451".

So, even if it DID fit the cyl, it would go "bang" in a really BAD way.

First if you or her have never owned or have been much around guns or rifles or shotguns, Find a good Gun shop perferably with a range and see if they have instructors. If they do then go thru the speil then rent a few different ones that fit her and go at it. As much as I am for our right to bear arms if people dont know enough or anything about firearms there more dangerous to themselves and loved ones then the would be perp. Just my 2 cents.

That is my every day one ( 90's commemorative built from all new parts)
have some from 50's on ( keep them locked up) always looking for another or just parts.:rock:

Since I assume it will be a carry piece (you mentioned the concealed carry permit) ,I would go for reliability and ease of use (i.e. : simplicity).

The more complicated anything is,the greater the chance of something going wrong in a high-stress situation such as self defense.

I would recommend a 2" or 3" barrel .38 Taurus (great quality but much cheaper than a S&W) maybe even one of the double-action only versions.

Taurus also makes a great little 9mm DAO semi-auto.

Either are great for carry.Also be aware that the lighter the weight of the gun,the greater the recoil will be.Everything is a compromise.

The .380's are really popular for carry these days but they seem a little too weak to me (but I carry a full size 1911 .45

).

Whatever you get : Get some good training and then : PRACTICE ! PRACTICE ! PRACTICE ! There is no substitute for training and practice !!!
