Scraping noise

Hello .... Any help would be appreciated :D

Just did a brake job (all 4 tires) including turning rotors & putting on Centric Posi-Quiets.

After everything was put back together, I had a rhythmic scraping noise coming from the right rear. First it did it constantly (going straight ... starts around 10mph, goes unnoticeable around 35mph); Now after 100 miles or so, it only starts the scraping noise when I turn left.

Truck is an 06 with 20K miles - thought it might be wheel bearing, but it never did this before the brake job?

I did notice my bottom dust boot on right rear caliber was wet with brake fluid (could have punctured when changing?) Could this piston be seized and causing the lower part of the brake pad to rub harder on the rotor when turning left causing the scraping noise?

My splash shield nor any of the caliper hardware are touching the rotor.
HELP!:dontknow:

At first, the sound would come as I started to take off (no brakes).

Now after 100 miles or so, it appears as I turn left (sweeping or hard turn) with brakes off. Sometimes as I'm driving if I turn the wheel left (swerve) I can hear the noise, as soon as I correct back to center noise is gone. Only a couple times now that the noise is there if I'm going straight.

Thanks.

you sure the wheel cylinder is good and tight...or you don't have shit in the drum?

he said it was the rear...i'm thinking where the ebrake pads are inside the rotor....

probably a spring inside there or something

but i might still be drunk from last night, too

I think so...When I pulled rotor off, I sprayed down the emergency brake assembly and the cleaned out the inside drum of the rotor.

I just drove the truck and noticed that when driving and the scraping happens I applied the e-brake and the noise doesn't change?

What's puzzling is I'm thinking what has changed since yesterday :) ? Only the turned rotor, new pads, and now a damn leaking piston?? I thought maybe the shop that turned the rotor messed up and it is out of round, but I have no pulsation?

Thanks for the help! Keep it coming.

Just drove the truck and applied the e-brake when the noise appeared, the e-brake has no effect, noise still there.:dontknow:

What is confusing is when I ask the question what has changed since I did this job: turned rotor, new pads, and a damn leaking piston (probably punctured it).

I thought maybe the shop messed up the rotor when turning it - out of round, but there is no pulsation when braking?

Thanks for help!

Thanks! Sounds like you are thinking it could be a hard spot on the pad? What grit of sandpaper should I use?

What do you think about the slightly dragging caliper piston due to being punctured? Is that possible?

Good point - Is the reason why I don't feel pulsation because it is on the back and you wouldn't feel the pulsation like it were on the front??

Any easy way to check the rotor?

Thanks.

Caliper sticking or check the rear end and diff fluid
Change fluid and add the friction modifier

you would feel it more in the truck itself if the rears or out...like slowing down for a stoplight ... and you will feel it more in the steering wheel if the fronts are out...

take some 320 or 220 paper and lightly scuff....

but if you're caliper is sticking, that's a problem in and of itself....so you need to have that checked, regardless...

I know this might sound F&%ked up but I know someone ( dumbass) that put a pad in backwards, and was metal to metal. took a day or so to figure it out:D

when you half ass fix it then expect it to sound like crap, these rotors are NOT meant to be turned no matter what vipertard tells u,you get what u pay for

Normally if its a stuck piston or caliper slide you will actually heat up the rotor , usually it want cause a noise.

most of the time if the rotor is turned to quickly with a worn bit, it will cause chatter while its turned, thus with the new surface of the pad it will sound like grinding or moaning, usually with pressure on the caliper the noise sometimes will go away.

check to see if the rotor is super smooth to the touch, WHEN ITS COLD, if not , it needs returning or a new rotor.
if it is, then scuff it down, and the pad and retry.

you would be surprised at how a worn bit will cause so much problems;)
