I'm doing a little research for my next mod, and I'm kinda stuck on choosing either the SCT programer or the VEC3. So I need some help from you guys that are running these in your truck Pros and Cons.

I know the SCT programer is just plug play, but you can't really make any adjustments. (Don't have to hack up the wire harness) I know its been used successfully in Paxton trucks.

I know the VEC3 has alot of customability options such as fuel curves, timing curves, you could add meth (which I plan on doing) ect., but I have really not seen any of the Paxton trucks using it. Is because of the split second controller?

Any help you guys could give me will be much appreciated.

For the most part the SCT will not do anything the VEC wont do.....I dont know about the SCT capatibility with the Paxton but Roe has so far been unable to make the SCT work with his blower...

Had a small conversation yesterday aobut he sct programmer and the vec III, and alot of tuners are piggybacking the sct on top of the vec III.
My opinion is the Vec III is much more versitale.
Now if ya want true tuning capbilities get the AEM with the plug and play harness from rev tech. the AEMis tons better than both put together but a bit pricey, with the harness and the aem around 4k

It all depends on who is tuning your VEC.

If you are fortunate enough to live near one of the tuning masters like Joe Donovan, the VEC is the way to go. When Joe gets done with a tune the program doesn't even resemble a base or generic tune from anyone else. ;)

HANDS DOWN, the SCT is the way to go. The VEC-3 is extremely limited in its capabilities, the SCT is not. Trust me, I have the software for SCT and I am well aware of what it can do. The VEC-3 is useful only for boost in my opinion where it can piggyback on top of the SCT for single dimension tuning only. The VEC-3 is not capable of close loop mapping, it cant efficiently scale LARGE injectors, you cant change all engine parameters such as fan temps, idle speeds, hardware controls, etc, etc, etc... Just for example, the number of parameters the SCT can alter is over 1000. The number that the VEC-3 can alter? about 10. With the SCT, I have completely remapped engines that only have one thing in common with stock... 10 cylinders. I have cars running 96lb+ P&H injectors on the STOCK PCM, and that run like a factory car, even though they share virtually no component similarity to a stock car. Some people preach AEM, but there really isnt much need to go that route anymore. There is a reason that so much engineering goes into an OEM PCM- because when you get down to it, it has basically all of the tunability of an AEM, but it is OBD-2 compliant! Short of boost control and traction control, (and knock, for up to 04 at least) the AEM doesnt really have a leg up on the OEM once it is available for editing- and the AEM doesnt have OBD diagnostics like the OEM does.

The key is finding someone who knows the software and can write you a custom tune, and is willing to sit down on the phone with you for an hour or more asking you a multitude of questions, or listening very carefully to what you want done. Box tunes are OK at best, but they are just that-generic box tunes. Chances are, if you mail order a tune and dont talk the guys ear off, thats exactly what you are getting.

Lastly, there IS an end user option for the SCT that will allow you complete control of the PCM, just like we tuners have- but it is locked to your car only. It is called the "Pro Racer Package". It costs roughly 1.5x the VEC-3... but you get 100x the tunability.

I would be interested on that Pro Racer Package...
