I'm not sure how these work. Do I then have to send it off and have someone put the tunes for my truck in it then leave it installed full time? Or do I hook it up and program it myself then unhook it after the computer has been reset? Sorry for being a n00b.

Nope, Just plug the tuner in and down load the tune to your truck. Once done unplug the tuner and keep it in your golve box. It not only acts like a tuner but can be used to scan codes and reset check engine lights as well.

Very simple plug and play!
